With both teams failing on their extra points, the score remained 6 to 6 until midway in the third quarter when the Lions began to get more serious. Bruce Dally picked off a Hopper pass from his linebacking position to halt a Colonial drive on De La Warr's 16. Two plays later, Barnes had gained 55 yards to the Colonials' 20. Quarterback Chuck McCallion, who finished as the leading scorer in the conference with 74 points, completed the drive by going over from t.hc one for the first of his two touchdowns. Barnes ran for the extra point. Minutes later, Bob Burns, the Lions' 6-foot-1, 195-potmd fullback, rambled 24 yards to score and McCallion passed to Ken Williams for the extra point to make the score, 20-6. A 37-YARD march by the Lions ended midway in the fourth period with McCallion scoring from the 1. Then, the Colonials' passing attack, which had been working all day but wasn't tacking up many points, struck quick. On fourth down and two yards to go at the William Penn 44, Hopper turned gambler and the Lions were scratching their manes. Told to watch for the draw paly or the short pass, De La Warr did just that -- while Colonial halfback jerry Windish sped down the sidelines, caught a Hopper pass on the run and turned it into a 56-yard scoring play. Ron Mitchell booted the extra point, Five minutes later, the Lions had something to be thankful for. The game was over and so were the jinxes.
