A test of brain power Many hours of extra studying, bi- ekly lectures on 10 different subjects a competitive test of brain power. fun? Very few students would many hours of their free time take on such a task, but the 12 chosen for the 1985 Academic n team did just this. The team .s chosen in late August by coaches iogene Engebretsen and Iann Ienkinson, then divided into three divisions: Honors CCPA 4.0-3.73, Scholastic 13.6-3.1! and Varsity C3.0- belowl. At the Stanislaus County competition Davis placed second behind Central Catholic High School, with each member winning at least one individual medal. A strong showing was made by Leigh Ann Loeffler, who scored more over-all points than anyone at the competition. Team member Kirk McCall stated, The Decathlon is an event that must be experienced to be believed. All things considered, though, I enjoyed the challenge as well as the commitment the Decathlon set before 11 us. - Amy Halley i Mrs. Ienkinson discusses poetry while the group takes notes.
