Silver Taps is sounded by the trumpeters, which is based on the traditional military bugle call of the Taps -- this mournful yet touching bugle call has been used as a finale for a ser- viceman's funeral since 1862, and is played at the veteran's day ceremony as a iinal honor to those who have died in the service to our country. VE TERAN 'S DA Y CEREMONY, 15th OBSER VANCE The Veteran's Day Ceremony was first held at D. W. Carter High School of 11 November 1969 and has been observed every year since. Previously the ceremony was held in front of the school, but was recently moved indoors so the students could better hear and see the program. Carter's Commandant originated the format of ceremony in 1969, and currently still acts as director. The JROTC, Marching Band, Calicos, Flag Corps, Choir and Student Council Presi- dent combine to perform this meaningful ceremony with a traditional Carter High touch, to pay honor to those who have served, and to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we enjoy the freedom offered in this great nation. 026 ETERAN'S Cadet Captain Michael Jackson rendering 'AW' 6- . 11 ' fl, Q A J it - A pensive mo- ment during the ---fm ceremony as the Calicos stand E attentive' The concert choir lends that dynamic musical expression of patriotism to the ceremony. v I 4
