D.l.S.D. Visiting the Dallas Independent School District Adminstration Building gives one an opportunity to see how much time and work is involved in mak- ing it an important educational center. We met many interesting people in positions of significance. Among them was Evelyn Beard, head of the art de- partment of the Dallas Schools. ln her office was a collection of outstanding art work by students representing all grade levels and schools. Mr. Reid deals with school affairs. discipline, drug abuse. and the newly formed LIFE Leadership Program. He stated that his main concern at present is vandalism. and he showed us the file of reports from the schools directing our attention to the fact that Carter had sixteen re- ports during the first three months of school. Larry Ascough, Asst. to the Su- perintendent of Communications, puts out the Board Report, which briefs our school district on Education Board ac- tivities. These people are a part of the dedi- cated staff who help our school district meet the needs of individual students. f Vicki Iacobus Y Photos by Larry Ascough. Board of Education At a meeting of the Board of Education, one could observe the unity' of its members and their dedication to the best interest of the Dal- las schools. Among many of the items sched- uled in the day's activities were the customary welcoming address, the induction of the newest board member, and the recognition of outstand- ing high school students. Last summer the board members worked toward many school reforms. Among these were the addition of subjects which would better meet individual needs, the teacher aid program, and the air-con- ditioning bond for Dallas schools. Such accomplishments may seem to be insig- nificant, but after witnessing the board mem- bers in action it was apparent that a great deal of hard work goes into each educational im- provement. - Vicki Iacobus - Photos by Iohn Mitchell President of Dallas Independent School Board, Dr. Marvin H.
