The senior class enjoyed recognition of their outstanding classmates inspirational speeches from Daraskuu class officers and dancing. This event served to illustrate the solidarity of the senior class. WOMEN- A CELEBRATION OF PROGRESS L to R Leora Miles, Marion Collins, Maxine Waters, Lynda Haw- kins and Michelle Spikes Niruby James Tracy Johnson Girls week commemorates the con- tributions of women to our world. One day is set aside for a female stu- dent-teacher exchange day. .Another highlight of this years was an excit- ing assembly for girls featuring Los .Angeles ' first Black .Assembly-wom- an, Ms. Maxine Waters. Ms. Waters, one of thirteen children, grew up in a St. Louis Housing Project. She at- tended Cal State L..A. in I960 and in 1965 she worked in the .Anti Poverty Program in the ! ' ickerson Gardens Housing Project. Currently she is a member of the Mothers of Watts, Dollars for Scholars and other com- munity organizations.
