83 SENIORS TO GRAD ATE -is LAST LOOK--Members of the Class of Winter 'SZ will take one last look at Jordan as students tonight before they move on with diplomas in hand. The entire student body will miss the Ecclesians who have led .Tordan to a fine athletic season and a fine semester socially and scholastically, Ceremonies Held in School Auditorium Some 83 Senior A's will take-the final steps toward graduation from David Starr Jordan High School tonight when they walk across the stage of the school auditorium to accept diplomas from Principal Herbert E. Morey. Graduation ceremonies will be opened with the Overture 'Hungarian Comedy', followed by the proces- sional. Class president Herman Hicks will welcome the audience, while Esther Ruth Lewis, Eleanor Brown, Robert S. Garcia, and Mary Shavers will speak for the class. The program will be completed by the singing of the Alma Mater and the Recessional. Evidence of the outstanding a- bility of the Ecclesian Class can be found in the high number of stu- dents going on to higher education. Eleanor Brown, winner of a S200 scholarship, intends to enter UCLA, while three members of Iordan's league championship team Justin Grissom, A. C. Lidge, and Willie Neal are set to continue at Compton and Pepperdine. Herman Hicks, in addition to being an Ephebian, president of the class, and an all-league grid- der, has won a scholarship to Pep perdine. Enrique Sepulveda gets the faculty scholarship award, Alvin Hester and Eleanor Brown the A- merican Legion Awardsg Wesley Sanders, the Charles E. Hicks Knight Awardg while a host of other awards will also be made. Miss Mary M. Fawley and Mr. William A. Farmer, vice-princi- pals, will present members of ser vice organizations and recipients of Awards and Honors respective- ly. Page Z lunior President In a Junior High School student body election to determine officers Mildred Gaines was elected to the post of president, Yvonne A. Smith to the job of Vice -president, and Ocie Mae Thomas to the position of Secretary. Mildred has been leading a busy life lately, doubling as the president of G.A.C. and Social Editor for the Bulldog-Sentinel. ln addition she is a member of the Barbara Jordan Ladies and Y Teen. Yvonne also is a member of the G.A.C. and Barbara Jordan Ladies. Ocie Mae served as G-.A.C. secre- tarv. Defeated candidates for of- fices include Carolyn Garcia and Ernest Colacion, presidentg John Antowine, Essie Grimes for vice- presidentg and Esther Hughey and Mattie Lindsay for secretary. fSee Page 3 for picturej
