LANGUAGE CLUB The purpose of the Language Club is to promote friendship and under- standing for those people who speak a language other than our own. Social activities have included trips to such places as Olvera Street and Chinatown, as well as picnics, skating parties, barbecues, and social evenings with literary programs. AMICITIA This is the school chapter ot a national world friendship group organized at Jordan this semester. The first club was organized at Hollywood l-ligh School twenty-three years ago. Subsequently many others were established, and in i927 a State Federation of World Friendship Clubs was formed at Santa Barbara. Since then State and sectional conventions have been held at regular intervals. The local chapter is the second to be established in Long Beach, having been preceded by the Wilson Chapter. SOCIAL ARTS TARGETEERS 4' Q3 Seated: Hazel Domengeaux, Bernice Gustafson, Shirley Dickinson. Dorothy Henley. Standing: Louise Wrisley, Mike Wolf, Bill Self, Bob Poole, George Roberts, Bob Conklin, Miss Rogers. SOCIAL ARTS CLASS Definition of name of class automatically explains the purpose-the art of social living. The students of this class hope to be able to fit gracefully into the social situations they encounter in every day life. Members of the class must be school officers or have been outstanding in school affairs. The class takes charge of the social functions of the school. Demonstrations for the Award Banquet and Junior-Senior Prom are promoted by the class. TARGETEERS This rifle club, which is affiliated with the National Rifle Association, was organized on May 27, l938, to create sportsmanship, responsibility, and a competent use of firearms. The club has grown from a charter membership group of l3 to over 30. Target shooting for the purpose of gaining medals and the rank of expert marksmanship from the NRA. took place in the North Long Beach Y.M.C.A. The club enjoyed several socials, among which were a roller skating party, a swimming party, and two house parties. Mr. Corbin sponsors the club.
