HISTORY OF THE CLASS OF 1956 cv CI ASS REI RESENTATIVES Seated left to rnght Barbara McW1ll1am latrxua Pritchard Joanne Boyer Standmg Robert lmn Harvey Wagner Charles liurkland On a brxght cnsp autumn mormng m September of 195.5 we eager but hesntant students entered the doors of Danville Semor I-hgh School to begm our sophomore year of schoolmg All of us were quxte proud at becom mg part of the Semor Hugh School student body and the welcommg words of our wonderful friend and prm crpal Mr Mensch wrll never be forgotten by any of us for they were the final touch that made us feel we now truly belonged The first step xn assummg our respons1b1l1t1es as sophomores was the electxon of class offrcers Under the capable gu dance of our newly appointed class advisor Mr Klmger we elected Jim Burns as Presldent Drck jean Messersmrth Secretary and jamce Foust as Hrstorxan Those first few weeks were hectnc ones' We just couldnt remember whxch way to walk through the halls and anyway xt was much easier to run up the hall to our next class only a few doors away fm the wrong drrectxonl than to walk all the way around the burldmg to xt But we finally got settled somewhat and went about our daily tasks whxch kept us all qurte busy The mxddle of the year was bnghtened by a big event the day we selected and ordered our class rmgs Only one other day could ever excel thrs occasxon the day we as Jumors would recewe these emblems of our hugh school days As sprung rolled around dances, parties and baseball games seemed to take up most of our free tnme and with such a busy schedule our first year at high school drew to a raprd close The tenth of June 1954 saw us suc cessfully completmg ouru sophomore year and already lookmg forward to the next step on our march toward graduation Summer days passed swxftly by and September ap peared agam brmgmg wxth her cool golden afternoons, frosty mghts fallmg leaves and yes school days We were Junxors now, full of good resolutrons and armed with books pencrls and tablets to tackle ouur second year at Dear Ole Alma Mater At our Erst class meetmg of the year we elected the five 1un1ors we were sure could lead us through another successful year Our Presxdent was Harvey Wagner Vzce Presxdent Dave Wennch Secretary Carl Book mrller Treasurer Nancl McW1ll1ams and Hxstorxan Bonne Payer They soon xnformed us of the duties that lay ahead Our specxal project of sellmg candy at noon tlme turned out to be very profitable We convmced the stu dent body that candy was nutritious as well as delxcxous and we must have been quxte convmcmg for the pro ceeds were quxte substantial Statlonery sales also helped fill the cracks 1n our treasury and we were very proud of what we had accomphshed so far In the sprmg of the year wrth our financxal status ln good standmg and the ard of every jumor we set about creat ng the most sensational prom ever wxtnessed by any student The semors had thexr doubts at first for we had with mnocent looks and guxleless faces told them of our plans for hxll bxlly prom with barefoot f1d dleus and hush puppres and hommy grxts for all' After much hustle and last mmute preparatlon we accomphshed the almost xmposs1ble a perfect Pan an atmosphere from the tall and stately Exffel Tower to the ghttermg srdewalk cafes Our theme was Eve mng m Pans and to every starry eyed couple there it was truly just that Handsome Hubert Kester and lovely janet Messersmxth presxded over the gala afifaxr and thus mght of May 20 1955 wmll be a treasured - , .' , ' 1 ' ' s, ' ' ' - , 1 , V ' I , . . 1 Y , -1 . . . . y . i . . - . - ..
