HISTORY OF CLASS OF 1951 SOPHOMORE In September 1948 our class as Sophomores entered the portals D H S ready to undergo the many labors necessary for graduatlon Havmg held our first class meetmg that same month we started a worth wh1le year by appo1nt1ng a nommatmg commxttee for the selectlon of class off1cers The followmg offlcers were elected Presldent Davld Taylor Vxce Presldent james Haney Secretary Norma Shellenberger Treasurer Joanne Casner and Hxstorman Eleanor Yeager These offlcers serv1ng as a commxttee chose the rose as our class flower rose and gray our colors and our motto The door to success IS labeled push Guldlng us throughout the year was our class advxsor Mlss Krakovesky Besxdes takmg part ln a varlety of school act1v1t1es th Class of 51 clalms outstandxng representatxon m athletlc events Four members of our class were on the Varsxty football squad a slzeable number on the jayvees and two glrls assxsted the cheerlead1ng lmeup-not to forget basketball and baseball A most lmportant day for us that year was the day we decxded on and or dered our class rmgs Thls was but one of the events we were all lookmg for The event of the year however was on March 4 the Sophomore Dance The memorles of thus evemng left a happy never to be forgotten glow xn our l1ves Havmg chmbed one rung of the ladder we were all lookmg forward to our remalmng years at D H S Eleanor Yeager Hrstorxan IUNIOR What an exc1t1ng year thms has been for the Jumors' We started the year wlth the electxon of offxcers Presldent Edward Connolley Vnce Presldent Ray Mordan Secretary Carol Bausch Treasurer Wxlham Courogen and Hxstorxan Ruth Wxllxams After what seemed l1ke such a long walt our class rmgs arrxved early m the fall What a proud class' Among the more lmportant events were the skating party held at Island Park and our never to be forgotten Chrlstmas dance whxch we unammously agreed ranks as one of the nlcest of xts kind The most 1mportant day of all May 5 the jumor Prom of Roses featured all the makmgs of a rose garden The event will remain ln our memory books for years to come W1th all these achxevements constantly wxth us we look forward to a most successful year yet to come-our wonderful Semor Year Ruth Wlllxams Hlstorxan 27 , , . . SENIOR At last' In September 1950 we the class of 1951 are entermg the portals of D H S for the last t1me to undergo the manual labor requlred for gradu atxon We are agaxn gurded by our very capable and understandlng class advxsor M1ss Krakovesky As always we had a grand trme durrng the course of the year To sw1ftly settle the 1mportant task of elect1ng class Off-ICCFS a committee cons1st1ng of last years offlcers was formed They proceeded mstantly to choose fifteen candxdates to run for class officers Out of the Hfteen the stu dents selected the followmg Pres1dent john Molter V1ce Pres1dent Thomas Herman Secretary Dorothy Dav1s Treasurer Martha Jane Schmrdt Hrs torlan Barbara Campbell Our next hrghlrght was the magazlne sales campalgn sponsored by the Curtls Publlshmg Company and the Crowell Collxer Publrshmg Company The Semor Class Dance whlch we all looked forward to was held Decem In December we had our class pictures taken and recelved our proofs after we returned from our Chrrstmas vacatmon In January we recerved our name cards whrch had been ordered the second week of December The months of December january and February were busy days for the Semors but lt wasn t untrl the Class Play under the superv1s1on of Mrs Sarah Free that the sen1ors showed thelr best talents Bemg presented on two con secutxve nrghts the play proved to be an outstandmg success pleasmg not only the students but also the entrre aud1ence Wrth the Class Play over It vsas trme to look toward the greatest event of all graduatxon The last weeks passed so quxckly that our final exams were already upon us Class Day was held wzth the usual events The Last Wrll and Testa ment showed that the semors were very generous wrth thelr talents and also thexr class room trrcks The brg day has iinally arr1ved for all of us to say our sorrowful good bys to both D H S and 1ts teachers who have grven us a guxdmg hand throughout our four years adventure through D H S Barbara Campbell Hxstonan 2 , . . , V . - A ber 1, and was a great success. . . , . . . v , ' ' , . . .
