The News Staff published a section of school news, called School Parade, in the local weekly newspaper, Danville Times. Varsity "D" The objective of the Varsity D Club is to promote athletics at Danville High School with emphasis on Sportsmanship and cooperation. There are two annual awards given, one to the most valuable player in football and one for basketball. juris Klavins was presented this award in football and Glen Turney in basketball. The Varsity D also honored Mr. Parker for his many years of assistance in athletics, at the annual alumni banquet this past fall. Raymond Vess. Diana Cornell. Charles Everhart. Dorothy Trego, Mary Anna 'l'r.ity, Bonnie jean Italiano, Mrs. jameson. Francis Kucheravy. Dick Gardner. Speech Class The Speech Class of '55-'56 was composed of seventeen seniors and one junior, taught by Mrs. jameson. Class activities included practice in parliamentary procedure, story telling iin other classes, presenting memorized poems and plays, exercises in class discussion and voice training. The Speech Class had a noon assembly once a month, besides putting on a play at Christmas time. For assemblies four committees planned talent programs, skits, and various other forms of entertainment. The chairmen of these committees were Mary Anna Tracy, Joyce Mizer, Raymond Bell, and Charles Everhart. Overall chairman was Raymond Vess, and assistant chairman, Norma McMillan.
