The Clarion 51 Class Prophecy It was ll 30 A M May 21 1961 when my wonderful sleep was mterrupted by the 1ns1stant buzzlng of the telephone I leaned over and ptcked 1t up to hear the sweet VOICE of Whltey Cl1ne my old schoolmate te1l1ng me to get down to Danv1lle rlght away Th1nk1ng 1t was an emergency I got dressed and hopped 1nto my car and started to Danv1lle It was a beautlful sprlng day and my mxnd drlfted to the fr1ends who made up the class of 51 Whltey was do1ng f1ne he has qu1te a lot of stock 1n some O11 wells around Greer FIVE years ago Dorothy Chapman flnally got that man from West Vlfglnla Poor Sh1rley Workman IS st1ll 1n the Pen for b1gamy Martha McM111an d1d her best to get her out but that was Marty s f1rst case as a lawyer Shes done much better s1nce then I turned on the rad1o and the f1rst thmg I heard were the tender melod1es of the Haymakers Quartet s1ng1ng Grandfather s Clock Its good to hear that Glen Mxckley Charles Barnes Charl1e Durbm and Wayne Frank have stuck together th1s long A l1tt1e further down the road I saw a slgn ROSIG s Restaurant so I stopped for breakfast Wh1le I was wa1t1ng for my ham and eggs I plcked up a newspa per and there on the front page was a p1cture of Helen Frasher the b1g game hunter who just returned from Afrlca Turnmg to the sports sectxon I couldnt overlook the b1g black pnnt CARROLL SHULTZ WINS AGAIN he rode Lake Cracker owned and tralned by Thomas Sapp On the next page I saw the plc ture of another famous classmate 1t was Bla1ne Workman be1ng crowned Klng of Sports The next words that caught my eye were Bob M1ller hlts h1s 63rd home run of the season Lefty 1S play1ng centerflelo for the G1ants now Lookmg 1nto a lower corner I saw the words Wresthng Tonlght Terrlble Gardner 1S mak1ng pretty good money now Turnmg to the entertamment page I saw we were well represented there too Marcma McDonald s latest plcture Lovers Budget IS play1ng at the Imper 1al She IS noted as be1ng the second Bette Dav1s Donald Rldgway IS 1n the l1me llght also He has a b1g Telev1s1on Show on Wednesday nlght called Don n1e s Hobb1es And the last of our group 1n the enterta1nment world IS Gary D1d1nger who owns and manages the class1est Burlesque 1n the state When my ham and eggs came I nearly fell off my stool when I saw who brought 1t It was Rosalle Walters looklng as beautlful as ever It seems she s been 1n the restaurant bus1ness for about SIX years We sat down and goss1ped and fmally got around to the subyect of matr1 mony It seems several of the fa1r maldens of 51 have grabbed up some unsus pectmg young men and made husbands out of them The frrst of the success ful maldens were Evelyn Z1mmerman and Ioann Sev1tts who are l1v1ng 1n Glenmont and seem qulte content Nancy Colopy has done all rlght for her self too seeing that she has a husband and seven k1ds It IS rumored that she IS try1ng to beat her slster Helen Plgman who marrted some guy 1n the A1r Force has four l1tt1e darkeyed darl1ngs the oldest IS named Dave Ir Dear lrttle Eva Bower IS happlly settled down w1th that certam farmer she has always loved The fate of the marrled men IS not so gay for Glen Hauger who lost h1s heart to that g1rl 1n Mt Vernon He IS l1v1ng 1n Cpardon the GXPISSSIOTID Fred er1cktown but he sends h1s s1x year old son to Danv1lle for h1s school1ng Bxg EIIC Wlnterhalter 1sn't so gay and cheerful s1nce he lmally was caught by the who had been chastng hlm s1nce he was a senlor GIBDCIHQ at the clock I saw 1t was gettmg late so Rosahe and I left for Dan CCont1nued on page 465 Page Twenty three Teddy the Termite challenges Women's Champ, Twila Ferenbaugh.
