DANBURY HIGH SCHOQL ANBURY, CONNECTICUT Fomawoko The Past and the Future: this is our ASTRONAUT. XVe are emerging into a new and complicated world - a world of astonishing scientific advancesg a tense world of grim, ideological warfare, of competition, of bignessg an ever-changing worlds of youthful concepts and maxims. It is essential that we do not forget the four years at Danbury High School which have provided us the confidence and learning to live in- telligently in this awesome world. A reminder that all ,future achievements are dependent upon past endeavorsg a sym- bol of the limitless bounds to which we can leap because of education: this is our ASTRONAUT. T DEDICATIONA We, the class of 1960, dedicate our yearbook, ASTRONAUT, to Progress - to the progress that has been maderfrom the time of Adam, the first man on earth, to the era of the Astronauts, the first men in space. We dedicate it also to our own progress, from our first-grade beginnings to our Danbury High School graduation. And finally, we dedicate it to the progress which will contribute to the enrichment of ourselves, our world, and posterity. , 3 1 . is A ' 1-and To the Members of the Class of 1960: Three Septembers have passed since we first organized as a class. Double sessions were effected that first September, and we looked forward with uncertain anticipation to its effect on our ensuing three years at Danbury High School. It has been an un- usually eventful three years, during which we lived with the double session, lost one wonderful principal with the untimely death of Mr. Raymond Claflin, gained another with the advent of Mr. Patrick Murnane, and experienced the direct impact of the space on our own academic life. Yet through it all you have individually and collectively lived up to all my expecta- tions. Despite these complexities you emerged as an outstanding class in and out of the classroom. You have been understanding, cooperative, and loyal to your instructors and leaders. I am confident that the communities in which you will live and serve, the colleges and universities that you will attend, the industries of which you will become a part will benefit from your knowledge, your industry, your understanding. It has been a short three years, but I feel that my life has been enriched by our close association. May you live forever and I never dief cimaca. Mr. Emanuel A. Only those ignorant of American history could fail to realize that our young people have always been our most precious natural resource and education the only means of using their talents and energies for their own happiness and the happiness of others. Not our power as a nation was determined by the education of our young people, it was our claaraclef' as a nation that was shaped thereby. This was and is the source of our great- ness and strength. The Class of 1960 is to be congratulated on the successful completion of the pre- scribed course of study of the Danbury High School and on the fine record it has achieved. It must be borne in mind, however, that the past, filled with the adventure of learning and the joy of achievement, is but a prelude to a life of continuing creative effort This moment in your careers is rightly called Commencement 'i for it heralds the beginning of a new and wonderful life It is the hope of your Board of Education that the future of the class of 1960 will be a challenge to its members and an inspiration to all PRESIDENT Danbury Board of Education BOARD OF EDLCATION Left to right Chester W Foley Secretary Eugene V Rohland Louis C Klinzmg Vice President Mildred G Smith Re cording Secretary Walter P Sweet Superintendent of Schools Rabbr Jerome R Malmo President Arnold McLachlan Charles I Sweeney Henry A Rocano Dr Henry N Blansfield Absent Thomas A Keating john P Prevldr Edgar T White Assistant Secretary john A Define ' 7 y ' l . . , , . , . , - 5 . , - 7 ' 5 7 ' Y Q 7 . , . , . . . . . , . 5 ' . , , . . TUDE T COUNCIL This year the Student Council raised money for the Hospital Progress Fund, bought toys for the underprivileged chil- dren, supported the March of Dimes, and sponsored two foreign exchange students. This is a record unparalleled in the history of our school. Through the efforts of its members the Student Council has surely lived up to its aims - to main- tain good student-faculty relations, to do service when needed, and to provide and develop mature, responsible leader- ship for the entire student body.
