John Evans moves up-field. HELP!! Pg. 105 The 1973-74 Varsity Soccer season proved to be the best Damien has ever had. The highlights started when Damien entered the Alemany Tournament undeafeted and unscored upon where we took first place. Next the Spartans returned home to host the first annual Damien Invitational Tournament where we placed fifth out of the sixteen entries. From there we started league play where we tallied up 12 wins, 2 losses and ties, outscoring our opponents 61-8. By consistently staying in the GIF top 10 poll the Spartans were allowed a chance to compete for the GIF crown, un- fortunately Damien did not play THEIR game and fell to Baldwin Park 1-0. It was a quick ending to a long season. Several personal achievements were ob- tained by: Bart Sullivan setting a new OIF scoring record in one season and also voted first team in SAL and he received all GIF nominations. Also on first team in SAL were Rick Davis, John Evans, and Rob Lamb. Ken IVIabie and Tom Fahey were voted for second team and Mike Potter and GG Ramirez were voted Honorable Mention. Under the coaching of Al IVIistri the Spartans closed the season with an overall record of 20 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. Bart Sullivan puts on a move.
