The San Gabriel Mission game was to decide second place in the Santa Fe League and a possible GIF berth. Mission struck hard and fast in the first quarter, scoring three times. Damien ' s only score came in the first quarter when Mike Dufek plunged in from four yards out. Pat Tierney ' s passing was one of the few bright spots for the Spartans in their loss. DAMIEN vs. ALEMANY 21 to 10 Damien returned quickly to winning form after having lost to Bishop Amat the previous week. The enthusiastic fans saw their Spartans defeat Alemany by a score of 21-10. The Green Machine was working fast and furious as Jack Burke scored eleven plays after the opening kickoff. Quarterback Pat Tierney scored from the one yard line on a recovered fumble. The extra point made the score 14-0. An additional touchdown was added to Damien ' s tally before halftime. The second half was a defensive struggle as neither team was able to score.

DAMIEN vs. SONORA 33 to 6 The Spartans returned to their winning ways once again as Sonora fell by a score of 33-6. This game marked the end of the season for the Spartans who rolled up a 7-2 record and a tie for second place in the Santa Fe League. Tierney and Burke scored in the fourth quarter as Tierney ran 67 yards down the sidelines and Burke returned an inter- cepted pass for 65 yards and a touchdown. Pat Rogers, outstanding on defense, was honored as Spartan of the Week.
