Our teacher for the first grade was Miss Byrtle Bates. We had eight members which originally started out with our class who are graduating. They are: Geraldine Bosley, Ruth Brown, Shirley Linthicum, Bobby Bellison, Betty Moxley, Deets Warfield, Arlene Phebus, and Billy Gladhill. We continued through elementary school having our happy times and also our sorrows. 'In the sixth grade with Miss Constance Mullinix our class went to Mr. Harold Mullinix's for the day to pick apples. What a wonderful time we had eating apples. Of course, we worked hard too. Then came June and we were graduated. That following fall We were a little frightened and bewildered at the thought of starting in junior high school Our homeroom teacher for the seventh grade was Miss Catherine Cartoe. After our first y-ar in high school, and gettin used to the school we w re not as frightened at the thought of starting in the eighth gr de Miss Iffa Hubbell was our homeroom teacher Then the ninth grade e me along with Miss Hubbell and Mr Journey as our homeroom teachers we had 28 members in this class That June w s the nbigu event because then we were graduated into senlor high school During the time we started school and up 'til the ninth grade we lost 45 meme bers. H. S. to have a school paper. This year, under Q Mr. Norman Stern, a practice teacher from Western 5 Maryland College, we were able to organize and publish 5 a paper. S Shortly before the first issue was published, 2 the staff sponsored a title contest. From the list 5 of names submitted, WThe Saber' was selected. Mary f Waters, a member of the Junior class, suggested the Q title, which corresponds to the WSc1m1tar.n Sabers, 5 are also famous swords from old Damascus. The prize 3 for the contest was a free subscription to the paper. M Issues cf 'She Saber' appeared every month and 5 sold for ten cents a copy. Articles that appeared Q every month were: 'Pen Points from Our Prlncipaln 3 written by Mr. Slacumg WQuestion of the Month,' opin- 53 ions of a student from each class on the question Q asked, Meet Your Faculty, interviews of one of the teachers: 'The Seniors,h interesting facts about each j senlorg 'In the Wind,W gossip around the school, and 2 the sports page which contained 'Hornette Review' and 2 nHornet:s Nest.U ' After Mr. Stern left, Miss Helen Cummings, the Q commercial teacher, became 'The Saber' advisor. i hd- d um f'-X-Q 0 'LM' -' -' 2- X . .'.-:.,':l':.Jf. -.,' . x..,L-..f.zE,':e 'J f g.fQ-genlswf ,,,' -L, A., ,.A, 1,-,,,,-,,45,L:!., ,QA ' U M ,gw '-,T B y - 1 'K 'E 33254 Q d B 'WWW WF a 4 , W 7 fl-P4' 15 'J w '1 5'5 .::?Iv?r,'w':' Y Wrzf' ':1 3'f??f5 T ' VP 'ft ,V . , oliil iifsrg . . Through this organi- Q t 5 zation the student body has a voice in school rules N vi and policies. To be an officer or even a member is Q EE one of the highest honors which a student may obtain. H 5 Our Student Council really flourished this year! 5 Q One of our first undertakings was the sale of activ- 2 ity cards under the Finance Department's supervision. l A We now belong to the National Student Council and lc have attended several regional meeting of Student v ' I Q m'Councils. L The Recreation Department has been very func-. ? tional. This department had charge of a Halloweien Q party, a Senior High Valentine party, and a Junior V High St. Patrlck's Day party. 4 Q Together with the Library Club, we held a Book Bazaar-at Christmas. Our magazine campaign was held in November and was a big success. We also held a Bake Sale in the spring. 6 5, U1 L 3 A trQ'Q Lr' .
