We can never forget these years we have spent together. These years will be cherished forever. For years and years we have anxiously await- ed our senior and final year. Now that we are finally here, there is so much to do! Getting senoir portraits made and sending an- nouncements. planning for graduation and making decisions. Most looked forward to is our own graduation, not to mention the senior party. As we leave high school, we feel a sort of emptiness deep inside. Most will leave home and we might never see them again. There will be no more dances, no one to tell you to go to class. These things we seem to take advantage of. Now the future lies ahead of us. We can do whatever we want. We can become anything we want to be, if we put our minds to it. The class of ’87’s time has come to an end. Hopefully we have left our mark at D.H.S. Good luck to all the underclassmen. It’s tough. We hope your memories at D.H.S. are as special and memorable as they have been to us. Make the best of the time you have. Your time will come and some of you will be feeling the same way we are. To the class of ’87: Thanks for all the good times, the sad times, and even the bad times, for we have learned from all these things. Remember fellow classmates, as you leave D.H.S. and go into the real world, set your goals high and make your mark high in society. Let them know you’re from the class of ’87. The class with class!! The Color Guard is responsible for putting up the Flag each day in front of the school as well as presenting the Colors at football games and other special occasions. The Rifle Team competed in numerous matches and did very well. The pride, spirit and responsibility that the cadets have learned were reflected at the Annual Military Ball held at the Fort Rucker Lake Lodge. A formal sit-down dinner, followed by dancing created a night many cadets and their guests will long remember. i - I . s (. 4 V? 2nd Platoon 40 41 FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA . . 2 The Daleviile High F.F.A. A large part of publishing the annual in- volves financing it. To do that, staff members sold ads, sponsored two dances, sold booster items, did con- cessions at one football game, and sponsored the Miss Talon Contest. Many times staff members dipped into their own pockets to accom- plish these endeavors. Staff mem- bers also take pictures and look at millions, it seems, to find just the right ones. Sometimes the job is just that — a job and hard work — and sometimes we have our light mo- ments, as well. Yes, they put together Your Book with lots of hard work, money, dedi- cation and love. P. First year coach, Rita Tanner, had 15 girls to come out for the team. These girls worked hard and showed a lot of potential for a first-year team. The girls had to be taught the basics of “Power” volleyball. They all learned quickly and began applying these skills in the matches that they played. The lady War Hawks went up against some tough opponents. The entire schedule was opponents with years of experience. The Lady Warhawks dis- played a lot of pride against these schools besides showing that they could be competitive for a first-year TEAM. 84 YOUR BASKETBALL TEAM William Molland Michael Baisden Pat Coone Omar Truman NOVEMBER NOVEMBER NOVEMBER DECEMBER DECEMBER DECEMBER DECEMBER DECEMBER JANUARY JANUARY JANUARY JANUARY JANUARY FEBRUARY FEBRUARY FEBRUARY FEBRUARY 20 NEW BROCKTON HOME 21 DALE COUNTY AWAY 25 SLOCOMB HOME 4 NEW BROCKTON AWAY 5 ELBA AWAY 9 LOUISVILLE HOME 16 CLAYTON HOME 19 ZION CHAPEL AWAY 6 ARITON AWAY 16 LOUISVILLE AWAY 20 ARITON HOME 27 ELBA HOME 30 CLAYTON AWAY 3 SLOCOMB AWAY 6 GENEVA HOME 10 ZION CHAPEL HOME 13 GENEVA AWAY YOUR B-TEAM NOVEMBER 20 NEW BROCKTON HOME DECEMBER 1 EAST GATE AWAY DECEMBER 3 D.A. Many students showed an interest in this newly formed sport and twelve people committed to give the time and ded- ication needed to make our first- year a good one. Coach Rita Tanner and Coach Clyde Jones worked with the two teams many days be- fore the first match was played on March 5. This work not only paid off for the players on the court, but helped them to develop more confi- dence and character in themselves to be used throughout the rest of 91 their lives. Missy Smith 92 Valedictorian: Lynn Moring Salutatorian: Christine Kimel It has become a tradition at Daleville for the Talon Staff to recognize the teacher that, in our opinion, has provided the students with the most support. Coach Johnny Sanders is the teacher to whom this year's Talon is dedicated. He serves not only as head coach of our football and track teams, but also as one of our guidance counselors. As head coach, he led the Warhawks to the State play-offs for the first time in the history of our school. As guidance counselor, he has encouraged the growth and development of each student at Daleville High School. We feel that he is a great coach, a great person, and, most importantly, a great friend! 1986-87 Talon Staff 93 M I S S H A R V E S T Q U E E N SENIOR MISS Michelle Walden 1st Runner-up — Tomoko Gilley 2nd Runner-up — Suzanne Burch JUNIOR MISS Maricon Manuel 94 1st Runner-up — Regina McKerlie 2nd Runner-up — Andrea Swiheart MISS SUZANNE BURCH 1st Runner-up — Maren Glover 2nd Runner-up — Lora Ledford MISS TALON MISS MAREN GLOVER First Runner-Up — Miss Beth Helms Second Runner-Up — Miss Mario Goodway JR. Hwy 85 92 Daleville, AL 36322 AN END TO 1987!! D.H.S. Will be long remembered in the minds of many 1987 seniors. This year at D.H.S. has been one of the best. As this year comes to an end it takes with it a lot of memorable events. It has brought with it a lot of good times as well as bad. I hope Your Book is a book of many surprises. I hope it has been to each student at D.H.S. a very good year. I leave the underclassmen with a challenge to do their best at what they do. and I leave the seniors of 1987 with this: To the class of “87 The time has come to say goodbye To the path behind us with a sigh We look forward to the future Never forgetting the past It is what we are made of the heart that will last. For the times that we've shared The paths that were crossed In our hearts they remain never lost 124 Christine Kimel Talon Editor % ( M ' Manufacturers of the World’s Finest Camper Tops. 3 Barnes Street • Industrial Park • Dale ville, Alabama 36322 Phone (205) 598-2422
