This was a get together for the students, as well as the people in our commu- nity, to boost the sale of our 1984-85 yearbook. To start off this activity we had a police caravan which started at the school and went to the bonfire. When everyone arrived at the scene there was all kinds of activities waiting for them including: tug-of-war among classes, marshmallow roast and a peanut boil. (For more information turn to page 85) DALEVILLE One of the greatest sources of energy is pride in what you are doing. Dale- ville is showing its pride by working to build a better community. We feel that to- day people are showing more pride than ever before. So we have chosen “On the Move” as our theme to unite the citizens of Daleville. We hope this theme stays with the community as the city continues to grow. Years from now when we return and see how much Daleville has changed and grown, in our hearts we will remember our home town as it was in 1985 ... A CITY ON THE MOVE! A lot of good cheer, humor, and Spirit had shone through in those who took pride in our school. A lot of students participated during Spirit Week. Tuesday was Farmers Day; Wednesday, Fifties Day; Thursday, Stars Day; and Friday, Spirit Day. After school, everyone went to work on their class floats, to get them ready for the Homecoming Parade on Thursday night. At the end of the parade, the class win- ners for the floats was announced. The winner of Daleville’s 1984 Homecoming float was the Sen- iors, in recognition of their hard work, time, and effort put in to make their float something to be proud of. Friday was Homecoming Day! A lot of student’s came to school ex- cited about the Homecoming game. Understanding teachers watched their students’ excite- 24 ment mount as they figeted in their desks, and the time drew nearer and nearer for the game to start. Unfortunately, the Daleville Warhawks lost in a tough battle to the Ashford Yellowjackets. This did not stop everyone from look- ing forward to the Homecoming dance though! Everyone left the dance sad- dened by the thought of Home- coming ending so soon, but glow- ing with the memories that they will treasure forever. 5 O v ns a u zjss 5 5 'V VIC PEEL Highway 84 West Box 402 Dothan, Alabama Beeper No. 793-8494 Foam Letters — Sign Letters, Rentals Lease To Own Plan, Sign Supplier V (juir outside txi omlEviu-E gatc) «APPAREL MON - FRI 9AM - 6PM SAT 10 AM -5PM SUN 1 PM - 5 PM DALEVILLE, AL SR6-4270 DALEVILLE AUTO THE PARTS CITIZENS BANK 425 N. It has been the best of years, it has been the worst of years. It has been a year of smiles, it has been a year of tears but mostly, it has been a year of news. Geraldine Ferraro became the first woman nominee for the vice-presidency as Walter Mondale’s running mate. Jesse Jackson was the first black can- didate for the presidency but dropped out of the race to sup- port Mondale after losing all of the primaries. The U.S. had its first increase in consumer spending in 33 years and also saw its first black Miss Amer- ica, Vanessa Williams. She made the news again as the first Miss America to give up her ti- tle. On the local level, Dothan was ranked as the fourth worst city to live in America. Boeing opened an office in Daleville. Army Aviation was declared a separate branch of the Armed Forces making Ft. Rucker bu- sier than ever. This has in- creased the military traffic through Daleville. State School Superintendent Wayne Teague introduced his so-called “Plan of Excellence” for state schools. Enterprise went wet in the elec- tion and city liquor ordinances were introduced. Prime Minister of India. Indira (thandi was shot to death by her own bodyguard outside her home This threw the entire country into chaoa, which was eaculated some weeks later by the accidental release of poisonous fumes from a Union Carbide Plant in New Delhi. India killing thousands. The fighting has continued in Central America, with the U.S. siding with the Reb- els in Nicaragua. Congress has forbade the Reagan administration from sending aid to the Rebels, who are dedicated to overthrow- ing the Sandinisto government The space shuttle went on its first repair mission to rescue two malfunctioning satelites and also had its first military mission The world saw two more artificial heart operations and the transplant of a baboon's heart into an infant human. Isreal has agreed to withdraw its armed forces from I banon after a 10 year occupation 48 FASHIONS This year almost anything goes as far as fashion is con- cernd. There are those who prefer the bright neon colors with lace, gloves, and big bows in their hair. Then there are those who prefer the black leather with wide belts and animal prints. Some people, however, still prefer to be casual with jeans and nice shirt, although you can throw just about any- thing together and have an acceptable outfit. Also popu- lar is big, bulky earrings and numerous bracelets. Jeans have become very popular with a wide variety of styles: jeans with two colors, pin stripes, pockets everywhere, the different they are the better! Well, with the “any- thing goes” styles of today who’s to say what will be popular next year. My Name____ My Nickname_ My Bestfriends. It is three o’clock in the morning at the South’s party palace, Panama City Beach. A full moon is shining brightly over the sandy white shores. Waves are making a gentle swish-swish sound as they slowly break on the beach. Suddenly ... a light flashes across the sky. Is it a bird ... a plane ... Superman maybe? Naw, its just a flying saucer from the planet Myxplitex. A what! Yep, sure enough, that’s what it is. Wait, look! Its landing next to the county pier at Whirley Bird Helicop- ter Rides, the only real way to get on top of Panama City. It’s the ultimate high. Slowly the door opens. There are a lot of harder subjects than in the ninth grade. Being in the tenth grade also means being a sopho- more and knowing you only have two more years of school, if you don’t fool around and fail. Being in the tenth grade also means that there is someone looking up to you and that is the freshmen, the ninth graders. There are also a lot more activities to get involved in than there was in the ninth. So you see, being in the 10th grade can be a lot of fun. I like it so much, I’ll go through it twice. But I can’t do that, I have to pass. Daleville High is the greatest, they’re the number one class. All the teachers are great; they fill up your brain. If you don’t like the tenth grade, you must be insane. The classes aren’t boring, mostly they’re fun. That’s why the tenth grade at Da- leville is number one. They have many supplies which help the builders and farmers in our area. Instead of hav- ing to travel all the way to Dothan they now only have to make a short trip up the road to get what they need. Two of our students here at Daleville High School are employed by Builders Cash Carry. Their work includes hauling feed, helping customers with their needs and unloading trucks. Builders Cash Carry also helped the Senior Class this year with the supplies needed to build their float. Int. Coach Head said the 2-8 record doesn’t give the team the credit they deserve, with the of- fense averaging 17.4 points a game. He also said that he thought there was a great improvement among some of the younger players. The team showed a lot of pride and deter- mination throughout the year against many tough opponents in- cluding the team 1 Elba team. The team will be graduating six Seniors on offense and seven on defense, but next years team still looks promising. 138 Although this years team didn’t go as far as everyone hoped, next years team still looks good. The offense will be graduating six players with five players returning for next season. The defense will lose seven while four players remain. Coach Head said he was proud of the way some of the younger players played. Among the returning players will be starting quarterback Scott Autrey and runningback Johnny Richardson. With good game experience under their belts, next years sea- son looks extremely promising. 141 basketball L rrr Kneeling (left to right) — Dennis Johnson, James Baisden, I ester Moody, (top row) — Coach Bob Armstrong, Jim Griffin, Darryl Daniels, Eric Sapp, Gary Faulk. 1984-85 B Team War Hawks Brian Etheridge teUiUii Fred Thomas John Connoly B-TEAM Kendra Mcl eod Tina Luckett 146 Laura Salyers Yvonne Johnson Dee Dee Windham 1984-85 Lady Warhawks Valona Sample Cadet MSG.
