TABLE OF CONTENTS TALON 1980 Opening Section School Staff Classes Organization Personalities Sports Activities Advertisements OUT OF THE PAST 2 INTO THE FUTURE CLASS OF '80 Freshman year — such a long time past, But when we were there We hoped it wouldn't last. The babies of high school Or so we were told, But four years gone past; And we feel so old. 4 CLASS OF 80 Sophomore year — a year we ll never forget Our first real year of High School, We re going to make it yet! We thought we were the Big Shots ', We said we were the best. But looking back on the year— We were just like all the rest. 5 LONELINESS: When the world is full of solitude And you feel so all alone, You wander where your friends are — And why they all have grown. The days go by like darkened years The nights, they seem so cold. You wonder where your friends are — And why you feel so old. You take a walk all by yourself And no one seems to care. You wonder where your friends are — And why they aren’t with you there. Loneliness and solitude There’s not a friend in sight. You wonder where they all have gone — Nothing seems quite right. By: Beth McGowan 6 7 CLASS OF SO Our Junior year was something else It passed so quickly by — And now that we are Seniors We re soon to say Good-bye. Our Junior year was special, It was really something great; We couldn't wait to get started On our future fate. 8 CLASS OF '80 And now that we ate Seniors It's better than all before; The laughs, the tears, of yesteryear. The closing of the door. We're really going to miss you, And wish the Best of Life To all the future Seniors — Who struggle with their strife. By: Beth McGowan 9 ONE LITTLE SMILE Out he walks with a painted face, Stumbling about, forgetting all grace. Erasing all memories of hurt and of pain Only the happiness of the moment remains. A child's eyes sparkle with love and with pleasure, Like the shine of gold from a long lost treasure. 10 12 13 THE OCEAN Days roll by like waves on the ocean shore - They roll in. linger awhile, and pass out to be seen no more. 15 YESTERDAY If all time would stop And events of the world go back, We would find out what The lives we led, did lack. No matter how hard we try, Or at any rate of cost; We can never bring back The parts of life we’ve lost. Live your life to its fullest, Think of nothing but today; For tomorrow, do not turn And wish for yesterday. By: Lisa Helms 16 sassvio SENIORS Richard Dale Adams Sharon Kay Autrey Kurice Omar Adcock. VOICES The DHS Voices, under the direction of Rhonda Whetstone, entertain people in our community and throughout the entire wiregrass area each year. The style of the group took a great change this year due to many uncontrollable circumstances. The voices became a show choir with more style and enthusiasm than ever before. Their staging and movement in song is more entertaining than ever. The students involved in this group are some of the most versatile and talented students in the high school music program. Numerous All-State Choral students compose the majority of this group, with the accompianist of the group being named the SSA Outstanding Accompianist of the district. The new voices display great pride and enthusiasm in the performance of their new style of music. Director: Rhonda Whetstone. Pres.: Angie Irizarry. Vice-Pres.: Larry Andrews. Secretary: Jean Hall.
