FASHIONS An intimate part of our daily lives, and are which influences our very existence. Style plays an important role in a stu- dent's life. Peers judge his taste, status, and generally base their opinions about a person's character on the mode of living represented by his clothes. The decade of the 70's came alive with mini-skirts, T-shirts, hot pants, and boots. Girls could not wait to get out of mom's sight to raise up the length of the dress a little, or roll the top of a skirt. ' 'Bare'' was definately ' 'in''. Boys' t- shirts and tank-tops revealed what they considered a ' 'Muscular torso.'' Toward the mid-seventies, designers captured an idea which would make for them millions in hard cash. The Earth shoes. Designed for comfort and wearability, this incredibliy simple shoe brought about an amazing change in footwear, and everyone wanted to be a part in this ' 'foot healthly'' revolution. The late seventies saw a drastic change in womens' dresses. Whereas before the skirt length had been mid-thigh, it now dropped to mid-calf. The new longer look emphasized slimness in the legs, and ruffles accentuated the total woman. Perhaps there is one article of clothing, though, that has not changed, nor will ever really be. It's comfort and versitility have made it the number one choice of all American's students. And no matter how the designer embroiders, cuffs, trims, or flairs it, it still remains the same. We've made it our favorite, and so will it our fa - vorite, and so will it always be......... The Blue Jeans. 11

SPOR TS The 70's have been known to most Americans as the 1 'Thrill of Victory,'' period. In this dec- ade , we had literally unknown athletes take the spotlight of stardom in different sports1 arenas. We had a black baseball player go over the 3,000th career hitting mark. Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves joined eight others in the coveted 3,000 club. He also broke the all-time home run record of the late Babe Ruth. Our nation sent athletes to two Olympics. In '72, in Munich, Germany, an unknown Ameri- can swimmer named Mark Spitz shocked the world as he captured seven gold medals in men's swimming competition, making a clean sweep for the Americans. The world also received a shock as the USSR basketball team upset the heavily favored U. S. team. Wrestlers from the U. S. also came to light as three Americans cap- tured gold and seven finished within the top four places. The second Olympics of this decade came in '76 when the U.S. boxing team took the spot- light as five Americans took gold medals, two silver and one bronze. Our women swimmers shined as they captured all but one of the gold medals. The men's competiton duplicated this as the American team totally dominated the Olympic fields and arenas. We regained the gold in basketball competition as the U.S. team closed down the up-starting Yugoslavian team. Also, a woman came into the spotlight as the Winter Olympics came to a close. Dorothy Ha- mill set a new’ style as she dipped and swayed her w’ay to a gold medal in the Woman's figure skat- ing event. 12
