“ENTER TAINMENT” The seventies produced the biggest mon- ey-makers of the century. The highest grossing movies were 1 'Love Story'', ' 'The Godfather , The Exorcist , Jaws , Rocky , Saturday Night Fever , and '' Star Wars''. These movies brought to the spotlight such stars as John Travolta, Syl- vester Stallone, and Linda Blair. Television hits such as M A S'H , Soap , Happy Days , Charlie's Angels , and ' 'All In The Family'' gave us suck superstars as Hear Winkler and Farrah Fawcett-1, la Jots, hlore people watched ' 'Roots than any other television show in history. The biggest selling albums of the seven- ties were ' 'Frampton Comes Alive , Saturday Night Fever , and Rumors . The hit singles were Stairway to Heav- en by Led Zeppiin, Stayin' Alive by the Bee Gees, and ''Bennie and the Jets by Elton John. 7

The early 70's were dominated by campus riots and disturbances. Students were beginning to stand up for their rights and problems were aris- ing . Many of the riots were violent and some people were killed such as in the case of Kent State University. The middle 70' s saw the end to riots and the start of new trends on campuses over the country. Streaking became a favorite pastime of many people across the nation during the middle 70's. Ray Stevens' novelty hit 1 'The Streak'' was very popular. The ' 'bump'' was the next ' 'in''. It was the dance that gave people the opportunity to express themselves. The slogan of the late 70's was ' 'physical fit- ness and all types of sports are popular. People flocked to sports stores across the coun- try for the latest in sweatshirts, socks, and track shoes for jogging. '' Running'' became the topic of many books and conversation. The every-popular ' 'Saturday Night Fever'' brought disco-dancing into the spotlight. Disco- teques have popped up everywhere and some people are wondering if this disco craze will continue or if it is simply another ' 'fad''. 8
