The members are chosen on bases of good character and sound judgment. The School Board members for 1971-1972 are: Mr. Bill Whiddon. Presi- dent; Mr. John Garbarini. Vice President; Mrs. Standford, Mr. Edward Subowscy, and Mr. Herschel Windham. Mr. Baker, the superintendent of Daleville School, takes an active interest in all the students at the school and all the student affairs. He is an active supporter of the War Hawks and can be seen at most school activities. M Mr. Moon became the principal of Daieville in 1969 and his main duties are to enact the policies handed down to him by the school board and to see that the school is kept running properly. Mr. Woodham and Mr. Kennedy are the Assistant Principals of our school. They handle the supervision of teachers and students and are in charge of the discipline of the school. In addition to being Assistant Principal, Mr. Kenne- dy is our basketball coach. Upper left - Upper right - Lower left - Lower right - Mrs. Sconyers Mrs. Lee Miss Forister Mrs. Arrington Our secretaries can best be described as smiling, cour- teous, helpful, and sincere ladies who do their best to help us in any way they can. They are loaded down with many school duties each day and manage to carry each one through with charm and know-how. The Guidance Department has many duties. Among the biggest of these is the typing and mailing out of every stu- dent’s report card grades, 1-12. The responsibilities are tremendous but the department always comes through the hectic time with flying colors. The main duty of the department is to render assistance to the student con- cerning their academic progress and to help the student make the right choice when choosing their subjects. The department is headed by Mr. Bill Daughtry, who assists the students with their conflicts. His secretaries are Mrs. Purdom and Mrs. Hornsby. 17 Elementary Faculty Left to right: MARY ABINGTON First Grade NORA ARRINGTON Special Education JOY BAKER Second Grade BEATRICE BROOKS First Grade ANN BURCH Fifth Grade BILL BURNS P. The Hawks fought hard, but suffered in what seemed a useless battle. The final score was 49-0 in favor of the Bears. Terry Fairchild ( 40) around the left end, escorted by Cliff Smith ( 21). Hawks Shutout Tigers The War Hawks traveled to Red Level for their first victory of the season on September 10. The Hawks put it all together in the first half when Terry Fairchild ran over for the six points. Then the great Dale- ville defensive line came to life and held the Tigers time and time again. The Tigers were allowed within the 30 yard line only one time, thus making scoring impossible. 124 James Smith ( 20) stops a Tiger for only a short gain. Victory Over Goshen!! The Daleviile War Hawks recorded their second win in a row after defeating the Goshen Eagles 42-0. The Hawks scored in every quarter and held the Eagles to ab- solutely no points. Terry Fairchild scored three touchdowns, Jimmy Day with two, and Chuck Hagen and Dwight Hughes with one each. Terry rushed for approximately 200 yards with an eight yard per carry average. Jimmy rushed for al- most 300 yards and averaged 15 yards per carry. This game was without a doubt the best offensive show ever put on by the War Hawks Team as they rushed for over 600 yards. Enough can't be said about the fine defense put on by the War Hawks. They were led by Ronald Bouslay, Tim Harden, and David Carlisle. They stopped the Eagles time after time and held them scoreless. ABOVE: Rev. Bryan watches on the sidelines as ... RIGHT: ... the mighty Daleviile offense crushes the Tigers. 125 Rebels Clip War Hawks Daleville's record now stands at 2-2 after our loss to the Rehobeth Rebels. The Rebels put forth their finest effort to best the Hawks 42-6. The Rebels scored first on a short pass in the end zone, but the War Hawks came right back when Terry Fairchild returned a kick-off for the six points scored by the Hawks. Standouts for Daleville on the offensive are Terry Fairchild, Ricky McLin, and Paul Thomas. The defense was led by Ronald Bouslay and Tim Harden. Tony LeDuc and Joe Anderson were also key figures. RIGHT: Dwight Hughes kicks on as Doug Thomas ( 11) holds the ball. BOTTOM: Terry Fairchild ( 40) struggles for yardage. Daleville Falls to Headland With Four Starters Out With four starters out hopes for Coach Baker and his lame War Hawks were mighty slim in upsetting the Head- land Rams. The Hawks jumped on the scoreboard first with a fine run by Terry Fairchild. The Rams came right back and scored twice to make the score at halftime 14-6. The Rams scored again in the third quarter to give them a 21-6 lead. It looked like the Hawks might catch up when Terry scored again making the score 21-14. The Hawks made a fine comeback, but the buzzer sounded with the final score 21-14. LEFT: Jimmy Day ( 22) returns punt for 25 yards with fine blocking by Terry Fairchild ( 4). Louisville Leaves Daleville 34-7 Apparently Louisville had a bigger grudge to bear than Daleville. Louisville is Head Coach Baker's hometown and they were sure out to get the hometown boy. The Louisville Red Devils scored on drives set up by Daleville's two fumbles in the first half and Daleville found it- self behind 14-0 at half-time. The beginning of the third quarter looked like Daleville was back in busi- ness for awhile until the Devils scored again, making the score 20-0. The Hawks fought, but the Devils scored twice more. The Hawks were scoreless until Terry Fairchild caught a touchdown pass. The final outcome was 34-7. ABOVE: John Bond ( 32) finds the going rough against tough Louisville line. 127 The line opens the way for Terry Fairchild 40. Homecoming at Brundidge Proves Too Much for Daleville The Brundidge Bulldogs scored in the second, third, and fourth quarters to best the Hawks by a score of 22-6. The Hawks held the Bulldogs to eight points in the first half and had scored six for themselves. The score at half time was 8-6 in favor of Brundidge. Beginning the third quarter with a touchdown by the Bulldogs made the score 16-6. The Hawks kept fighting but in the final seconds of the game Brun- didge scored again making the final score 22-6. 128 WARRIORS PASS HA WKS The War Hawks traveled to Dale County to play a school that had one of the best passing attacks in Southern Ala- bama High Schools. The Warriors came on strong and left the Hawks at half time with a score of 14-0. Early in the third quarter, Terry Fair- child ran into the right end zone for the score and also swept in the right end for the two extra points. This made the score 14-8. Dale County came back late in the fourth to score again, making the final outcome of the game 20-8. ABOVE: Terry Fairchild ( 40) finds the going rough in the hard fought Dale County game. The Yellow Jackets were the first to hit the score- board and held the lead until after half time. In the third quarter the Hawks exploded with John Bond and Terry Fairchild leading the way. John made a fine run and then Terry scampered in for the touchdown. Dwight Hughes kicked the extra point to put die Hawks on top by a score of 7-6! Patty Woodham, James Smith, Ronald Bouslay, Faye Holland, (Homecoming Queen), Ronnie Watson, The Daleville defensive unit deserves full credit for bottling up the Yellow Jackets the second half. Terry ran in again to make the score 13-6. Dwight Hughes came through again to end the scoring 14-6. There can't be enough praise given the Hawks on their fine Homecoming victory. It was definitely a team effort. Not only the players, but also the crowd on the sidelines were behind the Hawks 110% as Coach Baker would say. LEFT: John Bond ( 32) breaks for open field with assist- ance by Terry Fairchild ( 40). ABOVE: Ricky McLin ( 12) hands the ball off to John Bond ( 32) as Stuart Thomas ( 62) runs interference. The great Daleville War Hawks closed out their 1971 football season with a 25-14 romp over the Samson Tigers. Early in the first quarter Terry Fair- child went around the left end and ran 63 yards for the first score of the night. Dwight Hughes kicked the extra point put- ting the determined Hawks on top to stay 7-0. The Hawks scored again with 1:34 left in the first quarter to lead 13-0. In the second quarter Jimmy Day raced over to make the score 19-0. A 30 yard pass to Terry made the score 25-0 at the half. After the half Samson came alive to score 14 points but it was to no avail as the Hawks fans counted down the seconds on the clock to end a very pleasing game and season.
