Attendants at Boy's State are divided into cities which compete for points to decide the best city at the end of the week. Daily events include exercises (ugh), athletic competition between cities and pro- grams at night. The purpose of the get-together is to teach Alabama government. Elections for state officials and actual participation in legislative work is synopsis with Boy's State. The highlight of the week is a trip to the capital and Governor's mansion in Montgomery. I would like to thank my classmates and the fac- ulty and my parents for making this week possible. Thank you. Girl State Representative Patty represented our school in Girl State at Huntington College, Montgomery, Alaba- ma, This activity is for the purpose of famil- iarizing, those students fortunate enough to be elected by their classmates, with the methods by which our city, county, and state governments are operated. This includes campaigning and holding office in a mock'' government, participating in party conven- tions, and attending lectures on such topics as political carrers, and patriotism. She vis- ited the Capitol Building and attended a tea where Mrs. Wallace was the gracious hostess. Patty was appointed to the Board of Pardon and Paroles. She visited this department of our government and was informed just what this part of our government did. Activity lasted 7 days. Patty would like to express her apprecia- tion to her classmates, the faculty, and school for making it possible for her to expe- rience this once in a life time privilege.
