Busdrivers and Food Service Personnel Lines, lines, lines. At the ring of a bell stu- dents rush to get a place in line. Lunch lines al- ways seem endless. Be- hind these lines are the food service personnel planning, preparing, and serving our school lunches. It is the same rush at 3:30. Everyone hurries to get a seat on the bus. Amidst all the chaos that occurs on a school bus, the driver stays calm and collected. It is not in- frequent that he must act as a doctor or referee. Under the direction of our new band director, James Leonard Hobby, the 1969-70 Dade Wildcat Band made greater progress than ever before. During football season, the marching band performed at the pep rallies with zest and school spirit. The songs they played were the songs of the stu- dents of Dade High which spurred our team on to victory. It was during this season that our marching band entered several marching contests, competing against bands from other schools. The band took part in the marching contest in Gadsden, Alabama; the Governor's Marching Festival in Dalton, Georgia; and the Tri-State Band Festival in Rossville, Georgia. At every contest, our band received a rating of Excellent , and, at the Tri-State Band Festival, our Drum Major and Majorettes received a rating of Superior. Also, this was the first year that Dade High had a Color Guard. The band was invited to march in the Veteran's Day Parade in Atlanta, and was recognized and personally greeted by Governor Lester Maddox. Our band was one of the 5 high school bands invited to march in the parade. The concert band traveled to Cartersville, Georgia to participate in a concert band contest. The band received an excellent rating and our student conductor received a superior rating. Among the highlights of the concert season was the Christmas Concert, in which die Chorus sang; the Spring Con- cert; the final concert, in which all performing companies of the band partic- ipated. For the first time in two years, Dade High had a Swing Band. Although the Swing Band performed at other times, their outstanding performance was given in a musical comedy review called Runnin' Wild ’ 70.” All in all, our band is one of which we can be extremely proud, and, with the encouragement and support of the student body, it will be even better.
