Class History As a happy crowd of six-year-olds, our present dignified seniors jostled into the first grade room on that never-to-be-forgotten day in September, 1947, to experience our first day of school. Of these forty-six red-eyed, snaggled-toothed youngsters only nine have reached the coveted goal of seniors at Dade High. These are Terrell Gass, Tommy Wheeler, Betty Jo Barton, Riley Puckett, Roy Clark, A. C. Troxtel, Rochelle McBryar, Larry Greene, and Albert Quinton. Our class increased considerably in the next eight years of grammar school. Joyce Castleberry from Rising Fawn joined us in the third grade and Bettye Harrison from Ider joined us in the fourth. Mary Lois Clark from Mount Olive and Joan Stowe from North Dade came to us in the sixth grade. Eddy Joe Selvey joined our ranks in the seventh. In the eighth grade we welcomed students from several other schools. From North Dade came Paul Dugan, Jackie Carroll, Judy Strawn, Joyce Carver, and Patsy Hartline. The ten who joined us from New Salem were Jimmy Allen, Clifford Abbott, David Moore, Jerry Gray, Melvin McKaig, Jerry Kouns, Melba Bradford, Jerry Hughes, Glenda Moore, and Raymond Massey. Jimmy McCarty came from Rising Fawn, and Rufus Ross, from Aiken Junior High in South Carolina. Two more new faces appeared in the freshman class. John Gothard came from Lookout Junior High, and Sherman Moore, from Fort Payne. These students, when sophomores, welcomed Nancy Parker from Central. Our Junior year marked the last half of our high school career. We were engaged in many interesting activities, for instance, the Junior play and the Junior-Senior trip, which was a boat ride. Now we have finally reached our long anticipated goal. As seniors, we lost Joyce Vaughn to Rossville, and Wanda Arnold joined us from Kirkman Technical. The Seniors have participated in many activities this year. Rochelle McBryar was elected as the senior representative on the student council and she was also Home- coming Queen. Melvin McKaig was elected class president. In the Beta Club we have four seniors - Jackie Carroll, Paul Dugan, Rochelle Mc- Bryar, and Joyce Carver. There were eight members of our senior class on the football team this year. They were Larry Greene, Jerry Gray, Tommy Wheeler, Melvin McKaig, Jerry Hughes, Jerry Kouns, David Moore, and Clifford Abbott. Rochelle McBryar represented us as football cheerleader. We had three boys on the basketball team. They were Larry Greene, Tommy Wheeler, and Roy Clark. The three girls that played on the girls' team were Betty Jo Barton, Rochelle McBryar, and Judy Strawn. This completes our history. Every class that follows will have a history of its own. To make it the very best history though, follow these few remaining words of wisdom. Be wise and patient, look to the future while in the details of the present, and keep smiling. Bettye Harrison Joyce Carver
