In the, never to be forgotten, year of 1940 a small band of frightened, crying, fat, slim, tall, and short six-year-olds made their way to the invincible institution of learning which is so often spoken of as the Schoolhouse . As we face these dignified seniors around us, you would never guess that these are the same tousel headed youngsters of 1940. Of the number of students who began their education at Dade High we find only two remaining with us, Peggy Renfroe and Bettye Price. They struggled along until they were joined by Andy Newby in 1945 from New England. Another mischievous addition in the form of Benny Gaddis was roped in, in 1947, from Davis. Faye Turner, Merrill Smyth, Bettye Hixon, Geneva Massey, Norris Sims, Carolyn Hartline, and Juanita Holmes joined us in the fight for learning in 1948 from North Dade. Also joining in battle during 1948 were Imagene Pennington, Jeanette Moore, Leighton Moore, Donald Gray, Janie Bradford, Benny Bradford, and Bernadine Moore from New Salem and Dewell Everette from Sulpher Springs. As we left the memories of our grammar school days behind us we moved on to new horizons. Joining in the fun and hard work of our high school days from Rising Fawn were Loretta Davis, Jo Ann Steele, Bessie Steele, Kathryn Fricks, Wanda Johnson, Ronald Steele, Don Kenimer, Lawrence Woodyard, Ross Riddle, and Ray Bobo. In 1950 we added Deloris Pennington from Fairyland, and Agnes Forshee joined us at mid-term from Davis. The last victim to be added to our list was Fred Craig from Fairyland. During our senior year, Norris Sims was elected president of the student body. 15
