Cheer- leader. In the, never to be forgotten, year of 1940 a small band of frightened, crying, fat, slim, tall, and short six-year-olds made their way to the invincible institution of learning which is so often spoken of as the Schoolhouse . As we face these dignified seniors around us, you would never guess that these are the same tousel headed youngsters of 1940. Of the number of students who began their education at Dade High we find only two remaining with us, Peggy Renfroe and Bettye Price. They struggled along until they were joined by Andy Newby in 1945 from New England. Another mischievous addition in the form of Benny Gaddis was roped in, in 1947, from Davis. Faye Turner, Merrill Smyth, Bettye Hixon, Geneva Massey, Norris Sims, Carolyn Hartline, and Juanita Holmes joined us in the fight for learning in 1948 from North Dade. Also joining in battle during 1948 were Imagene Pennington, Jeanette Moore, Leighton Moore, Donald Gray, Janie Bradford, Benny Bradford, and Bernadine Moore from New Salem and Dewell Everette from Sulpher Springs. As we left the memories of our grammar school days behind us we moved on to new horizons. Joining in the fun and hard work of our high school days from Rising Fawn were Loretta Davis, Jo Ann Steele, Bessie Steele, Kathryn Fricks, Wanda Johnson, Ronald Steele, Don Kenimer, Lawrence Woodyard, Ross Riddle, and Ray Bobo. In 1950 we added Deloris Pennington from Fairyland, and Agnes Forshee joined us at mid-term from Davis. The last victim to be added to our list was Fred Craig from Fairyland. During our senior year, Norris Sims was elected president of the student body. 15 Janie Bradford was elected editor and Kathryn Fricks, assistant editor of the annual. Kathryn Fricks was also elected president of the senior class. The senior class had the honor of having three debaters on Dade High's debating team this year. Those were Janie Bradford and Kathryn Fricks who debated for two years each and Ray Bobo who has debated four years. S We also had eight members of our class on the football team this year who were Benny Bradford; Benny Gaddis; Donald Gray; Lawrence Woodyard; Don Kenimer; Norris Sims; Ronald Steele, captain; and Merrill Smyth, alternate captain. Ronald Steele received a four-year scholarship to the University of Chattanooga for playing outstanding football during his high school days. Five of the senior girls who have served as football cheerleaders are Kathryn Fricks, who has served four years; Peggy Renfroe, three years; and De loris Pennington, Jo Ann Steele and Bernadine Moore, who have served two years each. The basketball cheerleaders from ourclass were Bessie Steele and Bernadine Moore who have served three years each; Deloris Pennington, two years; and Imagene Pennington, who served one year. We are happy to have three members of our class as captains of the girls' and boys' basketball teams this year. They are Faye Turner, Norris Sims, and Lawrence Woodyard. We are proud of our class history and proud of the things we have achieved. After look- ing into the history of our class, we feel that we are more capable of facing the future. PEGGY RENFROE and BETTYE PRICE 16 It is now the year of 1963, and as I look back over the years to the graduating class of 1953, I find, to my amazement, that Merrill Smyth has taken Bing Crosby's place as No. 1 crooner in Hollywood. Deloris Pennington is now a stewardesson the great rocket ship, Dade Countian , which flies from New Salem to Washington. Andy Newby is married nowand owns a fifty-acre farm on the outskirts of Trenton, Georgia. Benny Gaddis is the owner of seventy-five head of beef cattle and a meat market at New England, Georgia. Mrs. R. M. Morrison, the former Miss Kathryn Fricks, is now coaching basketball at the new Dade County High School. Bessie Steele is now a famous hair stylist at Loveman's, the new department store in Rising Fawn, Georgia. Lawrence Woodyard and Don Kenimer are now partners in an architectural firm in New York. Mrs. Ronald Steele, the former Miss Peggy Renfroe, is doing a fine job of keeping up with her husband, who is now playing baseball with the Cleveland Indians. Jeanette and Bernadine Moore are running an old maids' home up on Lookout Mountain. Loretta Davis is a telephone operator at the new telephone exchange in Rising Fawn, Georgia. I stopped by the new hospital in Trenton the other day and much to my surprise I found as head physician Ray Bobo, and Bettye Price as head of the nursery department. Fred Craig isdrivinga taxicab for the veterans of foreign wars in Chattanooga, Tennessee. 17 I attended a football game at Dade County High School and I was amazed to find Donald Gray as coach and Benny Bradford as his assistant. Geneva Massey's dreams are now coming true as she is now an army nurse in Korea. Ross Riddle is head mechanic for Leighton Moore who owns a service station located near New Salem. Dewell Everett is working for the Johnson Tire Company, recapping old used tires. Juanita Holmes is personal seamstress for the great movie star Wanda Johnson . Agnes Forshee is now a commercial artist for M-G-M in Hollywood. I am glad to say that Norris Sims has fulfi I led hisdream of becoming the next Republican President of the United States. Jo Ann Steele is an operatic soloist for the Arthur Godfrey show on Radio-TV. Janie Bradford is coaching basketball out at the New Salem High School. Bettye Hixson and Carolyn Hartline are now fore-ladies at Davenport Hoisery Mill in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Mrs. Hornet Snook, the former Miss Imagene Pennington, is happily married and is living in Beverly Hills, a new section of Lookout Mountain. Faye Turner is an old maid school teacher at the new Morganville High School. Jean McKaig is secretary for the principal of Dade High School. I am glad to see that all are living and that each have reached their own height of success. 18 CAROLYN HARTLINE The Senior Class of 1953 met and decided that since we were soon to be turned out into the cold, cruel world, we would leave all precious possessions and hard-earned titles in the hands of the trusted Juniors, who will be the next senior class. We drew up the following will: Andy Newby and Benny Gaddis leave their pesky ways in Mrs. Ersaline Carroll's history class to Gene McMahan and Ray Ryan. Janie Bradford leaves her title as first-string tackle on the basketball team to Doris Carver. Peggy Renfroeand CubieSteele leave their title of Romeo and Juliet of the senior class to Shirley Paine and Tommy Mitchum. Donald Gray and Benny Bradford will theirability to play hookey without getting caught to Ronald Everette. Lawrence Woodyard leaves his slightly-used Eisenhower button to Autumn Troxtel. Bernadine Moore, Jeanette Moore, and Imagene Pennington leave their engagement rings to Barbara Hatfield, Sarah Chambers, and Ruth Blevins because they have now reached the grand old age of 17. Jo Ann Steele and Bessie Steele leave their dignified ways to Brownie Stevens and Sue Riddle. Leighton Moore wills his title as Coaster to G. L. Morgan. (Keep'em flying G.L.) NorrisSimswills his Un-bility to bepresidentof the student body to Elouise Limbough. 19 Agnes Forshee, Don Kenimer, and Geneva Massey leave their fine School spirit to Roy Chadwick. Kakie Fricks and Faye Turner will their gym shoes to Jeanette Gilbreath in hope that she remembers to stay on the right end of the court. Ray Bobo will let Brice Holland have his string of girl friends provided he keeps them on blonde rinse. Wanda Johnson leaves to Betty Derryberry the keys to the Standard Oil truck. Merrill Smyth wills to Douglas Forester his musical talents. Jean McKaig leaves to Norma Moore her slide down Lookout Mountain. Ross Riddle and Fred Craig leave their reckless ways and wild, wild women to Randall Mayhew. Watch it Randall. Loretta Davis wills her sailor boy-friend and copy of Anchor's Away to Eulene Hill. Carolyn Hartline and Juanita Homes will their wisecracks, giggles, bubble gum, and worn-out blue jeans to Charlotte Gray. . Bettye Hixson leaves her Tiftonia boy friends to Faye Wheeler. Dewell Everett leaves his half-full bottle of Toni Home Permanent to Shirley Millican. Deloris Pennington leaves to Margaret Clark her title of Biggest flirt in the senior class. Bettye Price leaves her place in the Glee Club to Bobby Massey. 20 I FAYE TURNER Prettiest Girl • Most Handsome Boy . Cutest Girl............. Cutest Boy..............
