Everest Young Republican Club provides an opportunity for students to better understand American government and the political processes that make it succeed. Membership creates an aware- ness of daily political lifein the community, state and nation. Young Republicans accept the major goals of the Republican Party but are encouragedto engage in debate among themselves and with other groups. Mem- bers may work in behalf of,state or local candidates in both primary and general elections. During election years the club is es- pecially active. Members work with local candidates and do much of the necessary footwork during the campaign. Several members attended the Thank You, Tomv dinner in Wausau which fea- tured House Minority leader Gerald Ford as the main speaker. Jack Roberts was one of two D.C. It stim- ulates an active interest in governmental af- fairs through first-hand introduction and par- ticipation in them. Any student who is inter- ested in the workings of his government and his political affairs may join. By supporting local, state, and national candidates in their respective elections, the club serves as a vital link in keeping stu- dents informed of important issues confronting our politically-minded society. 7

The main goal of all members of the Library Club is to give better service to those who make use of the library fa- cilities in school. To be a member, one must have a C or better average and be interested in books and people. The active members work in the library three or more periods a week. Once every month the Library Club holds a meeting and discusses ways in which to improve service and book han- dling. Their activities include a Christmas party and a Spring picnic. 79
