The fundamental premise in the Badger State program is that of learning by doing. Each representative becomes a citizen in a 51st state which, as much as possible, is based upon the mechanics of the government of the State of Wisconsin. Badger State is a true democracy where the citizens elect theirown state, county, and municipal offi- cials, from the governor on down. Each person has a defi- nite part in the functioning of the state, and each finds himself caught up in a whirlwind of activity from the mo- ment he arrives until the very end of the fast-paced week. Approximately 1400 of Wisconsinls finest young men and women-each chosen for his leadership, courage, de- pendability, loyalty, and good sportsmanship-meet to share these seven days ofunparalleled enjoyment and opportunity. In addition to a multitude of governmental activities, they participate in music organizations, athletic contests, and talent showsg each group also publishes a daily newspaper. ln short, Badger State is an outstanding program of public service and a truly unforgettable experience for each and every individual fortunate enough to take part in it. 66 5. 4 2 af s as ,-A x ' - EQ X 1 Jim Werner, Larry Bembeneck, Ken Juedes, John Koso- bucki, Larry Wolff, Larry Driscoll, Dave Giesler. the Uthrotar.
