Rapids ll 28 Dec. l 7 Antigo d 28 l 6 Jan. 7 Rhinelander 55 O The Wrestling team had a very fine season this year. They wan their own highly rated Invitational Tournament, placed second in the Conference and Regional, fourth in the Sectional, and tied for fifth in the State. Their Conference dual meet record was 6-2, overall they were 8-2. In our lnvitational Everest came out on top, sneaking past the State's 3rd ranked Wittenberg by three points on the strength of Roger Hettinga's victory in the Champion HWT bout. Gary Radtke and Jeff Stiehm also placed first, Later the coaches voted Stiehm Most Outstanding Wrestler. The matmen were only able to pick up one Championship in the Conference Tourney that being Rag Konkol's upset victory over Rapids' Bill Reeves. Jeff Stiehm was also upset that day? ? The team picked up four firsts at the Regional and WE THEY Jan. l4 Merrill 38 3 Jan. 2l Stevens Points 37 8 Jan. 26 Wis. Rapids l5 25 Jan. 28 Wausau 41 5 Total 329 ll6 sent six men an the Sectional. They were Champions Jeff Stiehm, Gary Radtke, Gary Dittbrender and Roger Hettinga, second place winners Milt Fust and Rag Konkal. Just before the Sectional Captain Jeff Stiehm brake his hand! Season record, I6-l, l4 by pins. Career record, 69 victories, 59 by pins, l3 losses, no ties, three Sectional Championships, and three fourth places in the State. At the Sectional Fust, Konkol, and Dittbrender qualified for the State meet by taking second and Hettinga by pinning Rapids' Bob Maxwell for the Championship. At Madison, Fust and Dittbrender almost went all the way, but in the end each had to settle for second place. On the strength of their victories the team tied for fifth! Alas, graduation takes some of the finest wrestlers the school has seen.
