The purpose of the Mathematics Club is to enable club members to acquaint them- selves with the many practical applications of the fundamentals of mathematics learned in the classroom. The faculty adviser is Miss Cohen. Members learn to use the slide rule, and solve problems of a complex nature. They have enlightening discussions during club meetings. MATH CLUB FIRST ROW: Joan Zimmerman, Roger Poeppel, Adolf Pagliarulo, Jon Levy. SECOND ROW: Barbara Waite, Arthur Lehrhaupt, Jeffrey Bash, Ted Perkins, Lewis Mandell, Henry Purow, Charles Lehrhaupf. The Physical Science Club is organized for students interested in the physical aspects of our scientific world. The arrival of the Sputniks and our recent achievements in moon rocketry have increased the membership of this comparatively new club. B. H. S. is one of the oldest organizations at Curtis. Originally started under the leadership of Miss Blondel, a former chairman, Mr. Goldin became its faculty adviser in 1944. This organi- zation is unique in that its meetings are held at night. Membership is selective: only students who have received a ninety percent average or better for two terms of biology and submit a project Rahn, Barbara Barack, Ellen White, Mary Ellen Smith, Jean Leonard. To help the students who study Spanish at Curtis to understand and know more about the language and customs of Spanish speaking countries, the Curtis Spanish Club meets each Thursday under the apt direction of Mr. Pardo. Activities this year included a Spanish newspaper, a trip to the city, and 'choral work. LUL UU UUI TAIIUHIL LE UEPICLE FRANQAI Under Miss Grannis' supervision, the French Club meets twice a month. Devoted to increasing our understanding and appreciation of the French language and customs, this club publishes the French newspaper La Petite Voix, an outstanding student pub- lication. At meetings, films are occasionally shown, lively discussions are held, and trips to the city are planned.
