One of the aims of the Arista, as stated in the induction pledge, is . . . to support only those things which look to the encourage- ment and highest development-physically, socially, intellectually, and morally-of its members . . . That this aim fthe words the student body or the community may be substituted for its members i, has been fulfilled, is evidenced by the numerous duties and services Arista performs. Among these are tutoring fellow students, ushering for all important school functions, selling tubercu- losis bangles and supporting a Greek war orphan, John Vrentzos, through the selling of Johnny Buttons. By its very existence Arista further accomplishes the above aim, by providing a goal for which all students can strive. Loyalty, efficiency, helpfulness, service and scholarship are necessary attributes for a student to have in order to be elected to Arista. Leadership, personality and citizenship are also looked for. Two iuniors are chosen in their fifth term by a selected group of teachers called the Senate. From then on, any student who has placed his name on the honor roll for the two previous terms becomes eligible. The entire faculty and the Senate vote on this list before it reaches the Arista members themselves. They then choose a pre-determined number of students, on a percentage basis, for membership, basing their decisions on the aforementioned qualities and upon their personal knowledge of the character and integrity of the candidates.
