GRADUATION A hush fell over all in Feldman Hall as the graduates marched in to the strains of Cod of Our Fathers . Their faces portrayed suppressed excitement and a hit of stage fright. The invocation. a rustle of skirts. the click of seats. and the Graduation Exercises had started. The program fol- lowed in the usual manner with the welcoming address, the presentation of special awards, music by the orches- tra. singing by the graduates. and the message to the graduates. But, this program was special, for this was their graduation for which they had worked four yearsg these were members of their own class receiving awardsg the words spoken were directed particularly to them. It was a joyous occasion, yet a sad one, for who can tell of the memories and the thoughts of parting in the minds of the graduates. And then, came the most solemn part of the program: the individual conferring of diplomas by our principal, Mr. John M. Avent. Midst the applause and the proud and happy smiles of their parents and teachers, the graduates walked to the platform to receive the coveted symbol. Suddenly, the exercises were over, and the graduates marched out to be greeted by teachers, family and friends, and then to return home to celebrate this special occasion.

FIELD DAY Wllhough we are met in what seems to be a military formationf' Mr. John M. Avent, our principal, said, MIT is good to know that we are not preparing to destroy the happiness of others, but to build happiness. for our- selvesf' The occasion was our annual Field Day, at which, members of the different classes competed in various SIJOITS CVClltS, As usual, the class of '42 came out on top, compiling a score of forty seven and a half points. The mass drill events, which had been revived this year, thrilled the spectators. More than 1,300 girls in gym outfits demonstrated three dances with beautiful pre- cision. Members of the Curtis apparatus team displayed their ability on the parallel bars. Attired in dark trousers and white shirts, the boys went through two sets of impressive drill exercises and pyramids, Throughout, the lusty cheers of all and the gay playing of the school band showed that the gathering was really one of joy.
