PONGO CLUB To the rhythmic clicking of knitting needles, the girls of the Pongo Club com- plete their latest project. Once a week these girls who take time out for knitting, can be seen carrying their accessories to school. An essential part of their knitting para- phenalia is the familiar Red Cross usquaref' Formerly, the purpose of this club was to develop an interest in textile arts by making fashion marionettes, having library exhibits, and fashioning costume accessories. But since then the war needs have become more essential and the Pongo Club is doing its part by knitting for the Red Cross. TRIP CLUB Here they are-the little band of Curtis itinerants, ready to start out on another trip. Of course, they only visit those places that are educational-the Forest Lane Ice Cream Plant, Cdid you know they give samples?l, the Automobile Show, and two per- formances, NCharley's Aunt , and Mit Happens On Ice . But don't draw hasty conclusions, for there is also a serious side to their excursions. They have visited the Planetarium, the Statue of Liberty, and the News Building. From these visits, the members have gleaned many interesting facts concerning their city which they later habitually discuss in any restaurant which can satisfy their ravenous appetites. CURRENT EVENTS CLUB uShould there be a forty hour week'?,'g uShould india require her indepen- dence?,'g uwhat kind of peace should We seek at the end of the Wfarfwg HAre you pro or con?,' These and many other current problems are seriously debated and discussed at the Weekly meetings of the Current Events Club. Even though the Club is newly-formed at Curtis, it boasts a large membership of civic-minded students. Members may seem to come to blows over their private opinions, but a visitor to the club should not suppose that any dire results will be the outcome of the meetings. ECONOMICS CLUB HVariety is the spice of life,'7 say the Curtis Economists. Therefore, they have a different chairman at each weekly forum. After the uprosn have their say and the uconsn theirs, a lively rebuttle is staged. These utongue Waggersw have developed quite an active debating group. when our Economists want to get firsthand information about places, they depart from Staten Island to the far off land of New York. There they visit such places as the National City Bank of New York, the Stock Exchange and the Red Hook Housing Project, where they gather knowledge for future discussions. At the December 18th meeting, Christmas was celebrated and these utongue waggersw gorged themselves with delicacies instead of information on current topics.
