To the Blass of 1942: An effort has been made in this yearbook to give a picture of the people, and of the incidents in Curtis that you will like to recall in the years to come. The emphasis has been on the informal side, so that you will have a record of the boys and girls and of the men and women whom you know so well, not as they are usually photographed, but as you like to remember them. Probably nowhere but in America could such a record be made. At least, at the present moment, nowhere but in America could it be truthfully pictured that boys and girls of your age are spending four years with their teachers, in freedom, with mutual self- respect, for achievement and growth. This is what we mean when we say 'four way of lifef? It is this way of life, we believe, that produces the finest fruits of personality and character. It is for this way of life that we fight. 277. .

. November 1941 at Curtis was a scene of many querulous expressions on the faces of the students. The cause-the unique poster display announcing a new type of yearbook. With the sudden flashing of bulbs and clicking of cameras in class-rooms, in halls, from windows, the wave of curiosity reached a climax. The staff combined its efforts in an endeavor to capture those familiar scenes that have been so representative of Curtis. It is our hope that as you glance through the pages of this book, you will hnd as much pleasure in reliving your days at Curtis as we have had in presenting them to you.
