Eisenreich, John Dybvig, Rick Korte, SCVA Cupertino can be proud ot a iob well done. Combining its greatesteever depth and talent with hard work and constant practice, the Varsity basketball team proved tough enough to be Number l in the SCVAL. Not only did they present Cupertino with the League Championship, but sported two All-League players, Mike McGory and Rick Korte. Both players hit in double figures all season and both broke the Cupertino single-game scoring record. While McGory scored 28 points against Mountain View, Korte set the current standard with a 32 point ettort against Wilcox. McGory also had three other 27 point performances and a l9.0 scoring average as he was chosen an AllMid-Peninsula forward. While John Dybvig controlled play at the pivot position, hamps guards John Myers and Dave Saraceno showed op- ponents their great skill in ball control and superior outside shooting ability. Coupled with McGory's agile inside moves and Kortes tine corner shots, the Pioneers sported the highest scoring average in the league, along with a league single-game scoring record ot 95 points against Wilcox. Showing that they were ot championship caliber all the way, the Cupertino Varsity was also second in the league in detense. The line coaching by Mr. Ferdinandsen, along with the great teamwork and inspiration displayed by the Pio- neers, proved well worth the ettort. Cupertino had the honor ot participating, tor the tirst time, in the Peninsula Basketball Tournament held at Stanford University.
