International Student Exchange This year CHS played host to ten students from toreign countries. Four ot these students came to the United States through the Youth tor Understanding program and stayed the entire school year. The remaining six came through the American Exchange program and stayed tvvo months. During their visits, most at the exchange students lived vvith the families ot CHS students. The purpose ot the exchange programs is to promote international under- standing by allowing students to observe tirst-hand and to participate in the culture ot their host country. To further develop international understanding, Interna- tional Club was formed. With the help ot club advisor Miss Ybarra, International Club organized meetings and activities to provide the means tor international students to become tamiliar vvith CHS. During the summer ot Woo, three CHS students partici- pated in the Youth tor Understanding program. Mike McGory spent the summer in Germany, Bill Meyers in Japan, and Janet Brush in Holland. The tour exchange students vvho came to CHS and stayed the entire year are Hirotumi Hiyama from Japan, Kerstin Johansson trorn Sweden, Hans Moller trom Denmark, and Alberto Orlandi from Italy. The six students who stayed tor tvvo months are Gabriel Artigues and Carla Capelli trom Chile, Mon' ica Martins and Tomas Salles from Brazil, and David and Nancy Melgar from Peru.
