s is 3 i ra as - JUNIOR AND SENIOR SPORTSMEN CLUBS The Senior Sportsmen Club is interested primarily in the promotion of safety in the fields and in the water. Promoting a better under- standing of firearms, so as to recrease the casualties caused by carelessness, is a main objective of the club. Some of the activities are: hunting, fishing, archery, and attending the Sportsman Show. The club feels that everyone should practice conservation and good sportsmanship to insure a greener, more safe America. The Junior Sportsmen Club studies safety measures and weapon handling during hunting season. Types of guns and ammunition for beginning hunters is another topic of their interest. The club aims to introduce and practice as many sports for future hobbies and voca- tions as time permits. This past year's program included bowling, table and court tennis, archery, and hunting. 78

CHEERLEADERS No athletic event, nor any other school activity for that matter, can be considered a success without the proper spirit. Cumberland Valley is fortunate in having an enthusiastic, cooperative cheering squad who's unfailing support of the teams, whether in victory or in defeat, sets an outstanding example for the rest of the school. This group of girls has worked untiringly under the leadership of Nancy Eshelman, their captain, to add spirit to the football games, basketball games, and wrestling matches. They have participated in many pep sessions as well as being a regular part of the marching band both at football games and parades. This type of school spirit makes true champions. 79 ROW l, lleft to Rightt: C Yinger, J. Johnson, J. Mullen ROW 2: M. Basehore, J. Basehore, ROW 3: C, Mc Dermatt.
