Klinger, L. Koser, JUNIOR HI-Y This is one of the firsts of Cumberland Valley High School. The Junior Hi-Y was organized the first year the high school began in its full form. It is connected with the YMCA and encourages development of Christian character in a program of wor- ship, public service, discussion, games and sports. Shuall, L. Kister, C. Starner, N. Eshelman, F. Hair, L Getz. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA The FTA is a national organization sponsored by the National Education Associa- tion. This year was the first year for the club at Cumberland Valley. The purpose is to study the qualities, traits, and aptitudes which are basic to teaching, and to secure information about the teaching profession. The activities of the club include observations of other schools, both elementary and secondary levels, visits to teacher-training in- stitutions, and actual teaching experiences. It is an organization similar in scope and purpose to the Tri-Hi-Y for senior girls. Jr. Tri-Hi-Y is open to girls in the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades. It is a national club, affiliated with the Young Men's Christian Association. The club is based on Christianity and service. The club strives for the well rounded development of our girls through clean speech, clean sports, and clean thoughts. 63

Burkhart KEY CLUB One of the newest organizations to appear on the scene at Cumberland Valley is the Key Club. The club was formed during the first semester through the efforts of the Upper Allen-Cumberland Valley Kiwanis Club and the high school administration. The club, designed mainly as a school service organization, has undertaken various proiects such as taking care of the school flag, providing a Christmas tree for the auditorium, and assisting the guid- ance program. The group meets weekly on Thursday, following school and is looking forward to an ever active program here at Cumberland Valley.
