XE BASKETBALL With only three returning lettermen, Coach Bill Ross’ inexperienced tribe of Cumberland College Indians substituted fighting determina- tion for experience, went on the warpath and ended the year with a highly respectable 20 wins and 12 losses. In the KJCC the Indians showed a marked improvement over last year and battled their way to a second place tie boasting an 8-6 conference record. The Indians engaged in three tournaments this season and won glory for Cumberland in each. In the Kiwanis Tournament at London, Kentucky, the Indians upset nationally ranked Lindsey Wilson and finished in the runner-up spot. At Greer, South Carolina, in the North Greenville Invitational the Indians w alked away with the consolation prize. The Indians ended the season by placing third in the KJCC Tourna- ment, good for their battle prize of the year. This has truly been an eventful year for the Indians. Center Bill Carlyle and forward Benny Collier were selected as first choices for the All-Conference team. Carlyle, who this year set a new Cumberland College scoring record, was chosen as first choice to KJCC All-Tourna- ment team. Cumberland College is proud of her Braves. ii
