Brooks AS THEY STROLL about the Great Hall before returning down- stairs, Grendel tells his girl briefly about the officers of the First Class. These three men have been elected to their offices by vote of the entire class. In all. their duties correspond to those of class offi- cers in any school. To them falls the responsibility for the social and financial welfare of the White-Stripersg and above all, theirs is the duty of maintaining that intangible thing called class spirit. The Patio ABOUT to step from Beason Hall to the Campus proper, Vi and Tom stop for a few moments on the patio, the gift of the Class of 1950. Some First Classmen are lazing about in the sun. A little way off some others are pitching horseshoes. Down toward the Inn, the Fifth Classmen are engaging in a softball game on their private ath- letic field. Then as radios and phonographs blare from open windows of Argonne and C. T., Tom and Vi leave Beason hall to begin their trek. W. YOU see, Tom goes on, f'we're not altogether military here. I mean by that that we elect some of the people who do important jobs. For instance, the Board of Governors here at Beason are chosen by the class. The Board sees to it that every- body obeys the regulations gov- erning the use of the building. It's a big job they have, but they handle it well. Everybody is impressed with the desira- bility of keeping this building looking good, and it isn't' often the Board speaks to anyone. nc l'
