We are proud to have such a representative group from our class in this organization. Undoubtedly We will often recall, when we look back on our school days at Culver, the balmy spring days contrasting with the bitter cold of the Winters, the frantic C. Q.'s spent in cramming for the semester examinations, and the extreme joy or deep depression which We experienced at the end of each grading period. We will think about the happy times as well as the trying ones when We seem- ed to be making no progress at all. As the year has at last come to its close, We look back over our school days at Culver in a last retrospectg and we smile with satisfac- tion that tempers somewhat our reluctance as we pass through the old Iron Gate. Fundamentally the purpose of an institution of learn- ing is to impart knowledge to those who seek it. Culver stands admirably by this principle, as is evidenced by its high scholastic standing among secondary schools and by its rating as an R.O.T.C. Honor School. One outstanding feature of our school is the fact that all of us have enjoyed the same opportunity to succeed academically. Some of us have gone further than others along the paths of higher learning and have won, as a result, either a gold or silver A, or the coveted election to membership in the Cum Laude Society. These awards have come to us as a result both of high scholastic standing and good citizenship. Those fortunate few who have been induct- 28

NOW ALL of you watch it closely - clcosely - clcoose-ly - N THIS AGE of scientific discovery and progress, we are all aware of the many develop- ments taking place in our world. Most of us have, therefore, studied the sciences with a lively interest. Heading the Science Department, Dr. Johnson has guided many an amateur and not a few professional chemists, and he has brought many a lost soul through difficult and exacting experiments. For the first time the biology course, especially popular among fourth and third classmen, has been taught this year in the former R.O.T.C. classrooms in the Recreation Building. Major Strow and Captain Miracle supervised their students in the use of the microscope, the dissection of frogs, and the proper employment of such verbal monstrosities as coloeoptera, pam- mecium, and osmosis. Under Colonel Strait, Captain Benner, and Mr. Brown, the rest of us labored 30
