9 , P T0 US CAME the privilege of helping to dedicate one of Culver's most noble memorials. PROBABLY we shall never forget the preludes which at 2:00 P. M. on Saturday, October 20, rang out across the campus. Played by Dr. Kamiel Lefevre, the great fifty-one bell carillon was calling us to the services of dedication, Seated on the bleachers facing the Chapel, we found ourselves surrounded by innumerable guests, many of whom were among the contributors who had made possible this inspiring tribute to the 6500 men of Culver who had fought in World War II. Near the en- trance sat the representatives of the Board of Directors, the Culver Legion, the Culver Summer Schools Alumni Association, and the Fathers Association, the groups which had labored so long and successfully to bring this memorial finally into being. ii

WE OF the First Class have watched this splendid building rise. I PHE FOLLOWING morning there took place the first of many memorable serv- ices Which We have attended in our Memorial Chapel. While the Rt. Reverend Her- man R. Page, Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Michigan, preached the sermon of dedication, we sat awed and impressed by the words, the beauty of the building, and the noble signifance of the service and the structure alike. Eloquent speech, fig, inspiring music, and beautiful architecture combined to urge on us the mean- iliifnflf ing of the words which appear above the entrance, Haec Signa Duci Metaeque 1-5 Accipimusf' We do indeed acknowledge these symbols as our guide and goal. 5 dz 'S 2' ,X x, er- ,..2 4,
