l ew ehanges around Culver dur- ing the past eouple years have proved as pleasant and weleome as the transformation at the lnn. When we left for home last June, the work was still in progressg and it wasn't easy to foresee the beautiful new lobby and dining room whieh greeted us upon our return in Sep- teulber. 22 The lnn was a wonderful plaee to go for Sunday' dinner. Lueky the parade-weary eadet whose par- ents were on hand to treat him and his roommate to a meal. After dinner it was almost the height of luxury to loll around on the eom- fortable furniture, read the papers and magazines, or chat with our roommate's sister who thought we had put on a beautiful parade. Of eourse, some of us pulled guard duty. or we found ourselves eonsigned to barracks as orderlies or N.C.0'S.g but those ineonvenienees came up so seldom that they didn't worry us mueh. liven when they did, the inaetivity that pervaded barraeks and earn- pus was so profound that we had almost nothing to do and were on duty in name only. Colne to think of it, there was one outfit that used to break in on our afternoon of rest onee in awhile. That was the Roll Call staff, which used to haul us out to have our pietures taken. They knew what we thought of them for it too. Most of us pursued purely seden- tary aetivities. ln faet, not a few of us hit our niee, C.l.-fresh beds and lay listening to the radio un- til we fell asleep. Elsewhere in the barraeks, eadets played sleepy' games of ehess and eheekers or wrote letters. Some even studied, but it
