Battalion Organization. June 7th, 1900. The Cadets are organized into a battalion of four companies, under the Commandant of Cadets. The Commandant is assisted in the instruction in drill and military police and discipline by four officers of the Academy, each of whom supervises a special division of barracks and company of Cadets. Each company is commanded by a Cadet Captain, and has its complement of Cadet officers, selected from those Cadets who have been most ex¬ emplary in conduct and soldierlike in bearing. The Captains and Lieutenants are taken from the first class, and the Sergeants and Corporals from those Cadets who have served at least one year, preference being given to those in the higher classes. For the purposes of instruction the most advanced Cadets in the riding school are organized into a troop, the required number of officers and non-commissioned officers being selected from such of these Cadets as have shown the most aptitude for the cavalry drill, and are in other ways qualified to command. As stated, this organization is only for the purposes of instruction in cavalry drill, discipline and instruction in military police and ad¬ ministration being effected through the fundamental organization of all Cadets into a bat¬ talion of four companies.
