Coach Bill O'Rourke surveyed the 70 gangling boys that reported out to track that late winter day and wondered why he had ever decided to become a track coach. He started the next day with a grueling training schedule designed to bring the boys into top shape in the shortest possible time. Culver didn't win many duel meets but the individual improvements were tre- mendous, High iumper Dave McCullough upped his ceiling to 6'4Vg . Sophomore Jan Koshay and George Lund established fine B marks in both hurdles and sprints. Sophomore high jumper Joe Faust got over 6'2V1 . Barry Riley broke Doug Gib- son's school record in the pole vault with a l2'9 effort. Bill Hayes and Alan Rob- inson, Sophomores, won the league in the Bee l32O and 660 and Greg Elliott ran the C 660 in record time. Next year with the fine sophomore crop coming back Coach O'Rourke will not have to wonder again why he's coaching.
