Coach Warren Flanagan's nine got off to a booming start, winning five straight Pioneer League games, after dropping the opener to Beverly Hills, l l-3. At the end of two rounds of league competition, Culver held a 7-2 won-loss slate. But, in the third, final and most important round, the squad faltered, losing three out of five contests. This sudden slump allowed Beverly, who had been on the Centaur heels all the way, and Hawthorne, who had waited until the last few games to make a championship bid, to move into a three way tie for the lead, as the last day drew near. Culver won the league finale from Beverly Hills, 8-2, to tie for the Pio- neer League Championship with Hawthorne. , . 1 .- Get 'em rattledl That's the bench strategy of Culver's horsehiders, as they ruthlessly ride rival rookies.
