Class Hlstor In the fall of 1951, we the Seniors of 1955, entered Old Crum Hxgh School , with Mrs Helen Weekly and Mr George Dawson as sponsors At that txme our prlnclpal was Caleb Smlth, and our class officers for that year were Edna Lou Queen Presrdent, Romaxne Sammons, Vlce Presldent, and V1rg1n1a Marcum Secretary Treasurer Our class then conslsted of flfty exght members Our class P3.I'tlClP3t8d ID all school act1v1t1es Betty Lols Llttle was elected cheerleader In the fall when we had our annual carnlval, Buddy Ramsey was an escort for the carmval queen In the sprxng Wlfh the elghth grade as ou:r guest, we went to Cabwayllngo Park on a plcnic and had a wonder ful tlme Our Freshman year was started wlth a loss of several students namely, Frances Meade Eulah Marcum, Melda Spauldmg Frank Marcum Don Marcum Gobe Messer Sam Marcum and Herbert G1ll mon Some of these are marrled workmg or ln the Armed Forces We worked hard that year and looked forward to om' sophomore year As Sophomores we returned to Crum Hlgh School full of energy and determmed to achleve more than we had 1n prevlous years We had a new pr1nc1pal Mr Noval Smlth Our sponsors were Mr Crum and Mr Robblns Our class offlcers for that year were V1rg1n1a Wllllamson, Presldent, Charles Copley, Vxce Pres1dent, Ernestme Crum Secretary, and Bllly Lee Marcum, Treasurer Vlfglnla WIIIIRHISOH repre sented our class as cheerleader That year we had two clrnlvals In the fxrst carmval, whlch was mn Octo ber one of our class members Romalne Salmons was elected carmval queen and B111y Lee Marcum a member of our class was her escort In the second cam1va1 wh1ch was held 1n Aprll Betty Lols Lxttle was elected queen and Bxlly Lee Marcum her escort In May we went on a p1cn1c w1th the nmth grade The ones who enrolled and dropped out that year were Mary Queen Geraldxne Stamper, Vlolet Fitch Frances Hensley Sadie Damron, Betty Meade, Harold Glllmon, Charles Prxnce, and Clyde Prince We gamed one student, Cleatus Rutherford The JLIIIIOI' year was a very challengxng one Realxzlng that we had a great responslblllty before us we could not slacken our pace, we were willing to work and work we dxd Class officers that year were Irene Rose, President, Ralph Dawson, Vlce Presxdent, Elsle Lxttle, Secretary, and Vugmxa W11l1am son, Treasurer Our Sponsors were Mr Crum and Mr Murphy We st1ll had Mr Noval Smxth as Prmcxpal In May we went on a pxcnic as the guest of the Semor Class of 1954 We appreclated the invitation and had a wonderful time 25 o . . . ! , - . - . . . , . , - -- , 1 1 1 1 ' . , , . . 1 . ,. . . - y , - I Q ' 7 Y 1 1 ' 7 Y . . ! 1 x . - I 1 ' . . . . . . .

Traditions has xt that the Juniors honor the Seniors with a banquet before the year IS over worked hard all year trying to ralse enough funds for the banquet We were determined to make occasion something splendid We d1dn't fall short of our aspiration, for we put on a banquet that we feel was the best banquet that had ever been glven ln our school We had xt at the Mountaineer Hotel xn Williamson Our theme was The Gay Nmet1es and decorations were 1n keeping with the theme After the banquet, we came back to school for our prom We are very proud mdeed of the outcome of both the banquet and the prom That year we lost some students Ella Crum, Martha Endlcott Gracie Moore Ernestlne Crum V1rg1n1a Marcum Norma Maynard, Ervin Marcum and Eugene Rose We gained two students, Augustus Porter from Dunlow and Roxle Vernatter from Burch We were very anxious to get started on our senlor year The day finally came' On August 31 we enrolled as Seniors How excited we were' This was to be the greatest year in the history of our class The word Senior had a certain ring to it that pleased us greatly Our sponsors were Mr and Mrs Crum to whom we are grateful for thelr kindness Herald Secretary and Troy Varney Treasurer Mr Sm1t.h had left us and we had a new principal Mr Francis M. Curnutte We have worked hard this year We have worked on both the newspaper and t.he yearbook and have participated in all activities Three of our girls Virginia Williamson, Betty Lo1s Little and Elsie Herald, were cheerleaders V1rg1n1a Williamson was also Drum Majorette Betty Lois Little was elected Homecoming Queen and Roy Herald a fullback made particular honorable mention ln the State of West V1rg1n1a Football Augustus Porter, a tackle, made honorable men tron Four members of our class namely Ralph Dawson, Ray Chafm Gay Williamson, and Charles Copley belong to the Iewel Chapter of the National Honor Society We are very proud of our achievements And now as we get ready to leave the school we know we will remember with joy, and yet a tear, the time we spent in dear O1e Crum High CLASS MOTTO THE LADDER OF SUCCESS IS BEFORE US LET US CLIMB, BE DO NOT PRETEND CLASS COLORS CLASS FI-QWER BLUE AND GOID RED ROSE 26 . . . . . we ' ' .
