The cafeteria staff also worked very hard to see that we got what we wanted - COCA COLA - and they did just that! We are very appreciative! The addition of the Salad Bar was also a big addition to our cafeteria and we realize how much time and effort is put into it. Not many schools have THREE entirely different meals to choose from. We would like to thank Mrs. Chase and the entire cafeteria staff! 54514. lift ' ' 1.1 1 ,,,. . ,.,.,,,,.4,...z,..,...,.,....w4,.,..,,,.,.M...,.A,.,,..,..,,.,.. THE STORY BEHIND THE MAKING OF ANANNUAL The annual staff starts early in the school year going to various businesses in hopes of selling an ad. This year we have hit Cherry Valley, Hickory Ridge, Vanndale, Wynne, Har- risburg, Weiner, Fisher, and as far as Jones oro. After the ads are gathered, we work on creating what will hopefully be a satis- fying ad. Then it is time to take the school pic- tures, club pictures, etc. Believe me, if f2fou'd like to see one person doing five di erent things at one time, just come into Mrs. Cooper's room first period. Well, by February everything is completed and we are proud of ourselves for finally finishing and anxious to find out if the annual we have labored over will please our fellow students. We'd like to thank our sponsor and someone who has helped us extremely, Mrs. Dot Cooper, a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Kay Wilson and Mrs. Joyce Woodham for carrying us to sell ads, and many thanks to the people who bought ads and you, the student body, for buying this annual. He worked very hard this year and through him the Student Council as well as the entire school had quite a few ac- complishments. Through the hard work of the Student Council, our school was led into many new activities. On July first, the officers and a few members met at school and with the help of Mrs. Mashburn, they started on the Thunderbird Country sign. At a special meeting on August first, the officers discussed several of the year's activities. Every one was carried out as the Council had a car wash on August twenty-third, had a back-to- school dance and everyone had to wear Jam shorts - the title was appropriately Jam Dance, and they also sold Catch the Wave buttons. The next proiect of the Council was the Homecoming ctivities. Once again they came through with shining colors as Homecoming was a huge success. The theme was Let's Celebrate and that they did as Homecoming was centered around the school's twentieth anniver- sary. The class of 1967-68 were given special invitations and passes to Friday nights game and were the guests of honor. he Council did a great job decorating for the dance as the decora- tions were an array of multi-colors, the perfect setting for an anniversary celebration. T415 QC , ey I As the year progressed, the Council had many projects. A food drive was in- itiated and everyone gave generously. ln February, they sold red roses and Val-O- Grams or Valentines and were grateful for the response of the Student Body. In preparation for the Regional Tournament held in March, the Council got an American flag to hang in the gym. It look- ed -lglreat. e Student Council had many other projects but they could not be reported due to the Yearbook deadline. By review- ing this article it is an established fact that the Student Council was very active and everyone should be very proud of all of their many accomplishments. Sideline Comments from the Coach In August approximately 32 players reported for pre-season practice. There was a good nucleus made up of mostly ninth graders. The players worked extreme- ly hard during the pre-season. The pre- season practice ended with a 12-6 win over Paragould in a scrimmage game. The season began on September 11 with a loss at Nettleton. The Jr. T-Birds evened their record at 1 and 1 with a win at Har- risburg. The flrst two conference games brought losses at the hands of Augusta and Marvell. The T-Birds came back with a blg conference wln over Earle. In the following two weeks, McCrory and Hughes slipped by the T-Birds. The last game brought a big rematch with Harrisburg - the T-Birds won a close contest, 14-12. The 1986 version of the Jr. T-Birds was mostly made up of freshmen. Three of those freshmen were three year starters, Scott Grafton, Clay Smith, and Stephen Steward. These players were starters on the two previous Jr. teams - both with wln- ning records. Grafton led the team In rushing from the fullback position. Both Smith and Steward were offensive linemen who paved the way for Grafton. Also, William Buchanan, Teddy Crouch, Rclland Lachat, Chrls Hodges, Trey' Heath, Todd Catlett, Mark Mays, and Matt Stevenson were instrumental in the team's success. With the season ending on a winning note, hopes are high that this group will achieve greater success in the future. SEVENTH GRADE A small but very talented group of four- teen seventh graders began their football careers at Cross County. After an opening loss to McCrory, the seventh graders went on to win five straight. A win at Harrisburg evened their record at 1 and 1. After another win over Harrisburg, the T-Birds traveled to McCrory to avenge their earlier loss. The T- Birds were victorious, winning by a 14-8 margin. The season ended' with two wlns over the eighth grade B team. Their en- ding season record was 5 and 1. Way to go boysl . K Jv iz, ' ,, , The Jr. T-Birds battled hard but lost to Augusta 24-16. There are quiet people, loud people, conceited people, humble people, out-going people, and laid-back people. There are those who like country music, rock music, soul music, and gospel music. There are people with dreams, people who are down to earth, people with new faces, and people you've known since Kindergarten and before. However, none are exactly alike, and none are better or worse than any other. That's what's great about our school. We've got personality. J' f 4 1 'GP - .1 i . And we will all together be In our heavenly home for eternity. For God has us His promise given That we will meet again in heaven And in His Word l put my trust And know He will take care of us, And l know that there is someone there Safe and happy in His perfect care And waiting for the rest of us As each in turn will journey there. And if I should be the next to go Try not to feel too much woe For even though the loss is sad There is a reason to be glad And even though we might forget Something better awaits us yet And as each parting is hard to bear The greater reunion we will share. And if the next should not be me I know that there will sorrow be And I will just await my turn And with all my heart I will yearn For the fulfillment of God's perfect plan To all be together once again. -- Belvia Bourland This Memorial Was Sponsored By The Senior Class Of 1987 MMMML we aww, ww' JVAWPQQA Jiflwf d.AfQQg4 QiW.rI Www, 'lion 0553? 75?iZ3fTMM gwgfwsifimiae QJZZN Smut me Qukwm wing EMM 5nmwroQmet Mg 8 F, Wee ewes ww new uilmgfy CSKJLUQ Wuja-JQU am .. After walking down our halls, I discovered that there were nineteen senior portraits hanging from the wall. Then it hit me. This year would be our school's twentieth anniversary. From there, I, with the help of the staff, read that the twentieth anniversary gift is PLATINUM. The wheels really began to turn, and we jointly concluded that the theme would be WE,VE FINALLY HIT PLATINUM. I hoped, as we decided on our theme, that this year would be packed full of exciting and memorable events because we were really ready to capture them. Next came the new and improved layout design. Cap- tivating the mind of the reader would be the goal of our layout. The staff and I worked hard on writing, changing, adding, and rearranging everything. The pages were finally ridded of unsightly white space. This yearbook is absolutely jam-packed full of the year's activities. I hope the added articles will be enjoyable and informative. They may not really be appreciated now, however, twenty years down the road, when our minds begin to degenerate, the helpful hint of a name or two will be appreciated. The staff and I have put much time and untold effort into this year- book, and we hope you think it is as great as we do. Speaking for the whole staff, we hope you enjoy reviewing this yearbook as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Words cannot express my sincerest appreciation to Mrs. Dorothy Cooper, who spent a trememdous amount of time checking over pages and looking for our mistakes. More than anything I appreciated her support, and her sense of humor, and I will always respect her. She backed us all the way just as she's done with other yearbook staffs over the past twenty years at C.C.H.S. I would also like to thank Mrs. Kay Wilson and Mrs. Joyce Woodham for carting us to sell adver- tisements. The office personnel should also be mentioned for I felt I was driving them crazy with my frequent visits. They all helped out in many ways. A big word of thanks should go to Mr. Robert Jenkins for doing a fantastic job of photography on the senior division page, the endsheets, and especially the cover. And to the worId's greatest year- book staff, I would like to say thanks for your ideas, support, and respect with which you helped me through the year. Last, but not least, I would like to thank my family for putting up with my frequent memory lapses at home due to yearbook deadlines. I am in high hopes that as you have reviewed this yearbook, you will always remember the many things that made our year PLATINUM.
