S courage and sportsmanship were the foundation to the carrying out of the
Byrd expedition, so is it the foundation of the major sport, football. High
success, much discouragement, interwoven, are the results of successful conquests.
Creston's football team of 1930 experienced this in its successful conquest,
Considering the losing of a good share of the players of the championship team of
1929, the results were very good.
The first game was with Austin High, Chicago, September 25. It was a hardf
fought, wellfplayed game, Creston winning in the last quarter. Bricker went over
for a touchdown making the score 7f0.
October 1-Creston vs. Muskegon Heights. We were defeated with a score
of 33f6. The game was more interesting than the score indicates. Simmons and
Hoebeke were the brilliant players.
October 8-Creston played Union, one of the outstanding teams of the state.
Although we were defeated, we held them to a score of 13f0. Thompson and
Unseld seemed to stand out in this game.
October 15-Creston tied Holland, 6f6. It was a wellfplayed game considering
the extremely hot day. Captain Kunkle, Watrous, and Cameron were the flashy
players.
October 22-Creston was defeated by South, 13f0. The game was very close.
Creston gained consistently through South's line. Dedinas, Vander Veen, and
Cooper made the paths for these gains.
November 5-Creston outplayed Catholic Central, winning 6fO. Bergstrom
and Kunkle were the stars.
November 12-Creston defeated Central for the first time in its history. The
score was 6f2. Lamphear, Dedinas, Kunkle, and Simmons played an exceedingly
good game.
November 19-Creston wins over the hardffighting Technical High players,
Creston won, with a score of 14fO, in the last half. Williams showed up in this
game.
November 26-We wound up the schedule playing Ottawa, losing l9fO. Vander
Veen, Captain Kunkle, Dedinas, and Unseld starred.
