ESIDES taking an important part in the Concert given january 17, the Senior
Band played for the Grand Rapids Safety Council, with members of other
city high schools during the intermission of the program given by the U. S. Army
Band and later under the direction of Commander John Phillip Sousa at the Armory.
They also added much zest to the Football and Basketball games and played
at the athletic and pep assemblies.
James Vonk was this year's drum major and Robert Kirchner took the part of
assistant director. Mr. Glover capably directed.
F the newer organizations in the school, the junior Orchestra has progressed
the most. Every instrument in the Senior Orchestra is also represented in
this club. At present they number about forty members.
The purpose of the Junior Orchestra is to train members for the Senior
Orchestra. They have played at all Junior Assemblies during the past year.
With Mr. Glover tutoring many of the members look forward to the time when
they can take leading parts in the older organization in which many have made
good showings already.
